Default Translation Software

Okay I know I might be setting myself up for a sneaker in an uninviting place, but I'll ask anyway. I'm traveling to a country that does not have a network strong enough for my bold to connect to the web.

Does anyone know if there is software that will translate english to spanish without the need to connect? Because all the translation software I've ever seen for this needs to connect to a translation engine online, I can only assume that it's too powerful for it to be all self contained on a smartphone. But I will pay $$ if there is an app out there that will do what I need.

And if it's already commonly known that it is not possible... I plead ignorance Red!

I am betting there is a English/Spanish dictionary you could load to your device or Media Card. Have you looked for that, a dictionary rather than a translation software?

Thanks JS - I already have a dictionary. It needs to be software that translates sentences just like "Google Translate". I'm guessing that the engine might be too complex to run on a handheld, I can't even find one that runs on a computer without having to connect to the internet. Unfortunately Cuba is not on the 3G network at this time..

What about google translate, that seems to work fine via the browser.

Not optimal, but it works.

Does the Lonely Planets software (saw it in the BB Lounge) need a data link? It may do phrases.

I do have MSDict (not microsoft) multilanguage set but it is WORDS.

Not sure but it's $10 and the only review on it in App World is pretty bad:

I want a refund! This nothing what I expected. It was advertised so grandly; as if there were hundreds of words/phrases... Not SO! Not worth $9.99

An actual "on-the-fly" translation program would require WAY more memory and processing power than the BlackBerry can provide. I think you'll be forced to rely on dictionaries.
