I recently acquired a blackberry 9000. When I hold down the switch on top of the blackberry it says something like "entering standby mode..." and then seems to do so. About a minute later, though, the screen lights up again and the same message comes up about entering standby mode and then it stays off until I hold down the switch on top of the blackberry. It does go into the standby mode (if I touch any keys nothing happens) so I assume it is working. I just don't understand why it lights up again for a few seconds after putiing it into standby mode. Is this normal and if not does it matter? It seems to work fine otherwise.

If you are not on a call, you can turn on standby mode to avoid pressing keys accidentally when you are not using your BlackBerry smartphone.

To turn on standby mode, hold the Mute key. To turn off standby mode, press the Mute key again.

In standby mode, the BlackBerry smartphone will still notify you according to your Notification profiles. You will still be able to receive phone calls and your BlackBerry smartphone will continue receiving messages.
