Default BB 8830 data retreival halp - NooB!

Please Login to Remove!

Trying to help a friend who is being laid off from his firm. He needs to retrieve his data from his Verizon BB 8830. Only need the email messages, and contacts information. No 3rd party stuff or anything else.

I'm pretty sure this was part of a MS exchange server environment. I don't have much account info (obviously).

I've tried installing the desktop software to my laptop but can't figure out how to do this. I shouldn't have to configure the email and account stuff should I?

Please help this is pretty essential and the firm is being entirely crappy and unhelpful about it.
TIA!!

You can install the Desktop Manager as BIS (internet service), not Enterprise.

Then your friend will need to enter their device password when they connect their BB to your PC (since it's a 'firm' I'm going to guess that the 'firm' required a password). Then they can create a backup.

The backup can then be restored to another device (or just parts of it using the Advacned Restore).

I always wonder about these 'my friend' threads.....why doesn't the friend create the post since it's their device?

LOL, I know what you mean about 'my friend' threads. I'm just helping a tech-clueless buddy who, well, has no clue about these things.

Anyhoo, as a follow up...

My friend will not be replacing the BB, so he will need access to the email and contacts data without a restore to another device. Having that backup for future use is fine, but he needs a way to have at that data without restoring it to a black berry.

Is this possible? I should think that it could be loaded into the desktop software??? I'm familiar with palms/treos and they work that way... Or perhaps getting it into Outlook (though without an account setup I'm not sure how to do that.)

Thanks a ton for the help. I'll try the install the way you suggest, I HAD chosen the exchange setup...

Nope, not possible.
Forget everything you know about Palm and Treo. None of it applies here.

Default Almost there, little more help.

OK. I made the backup. So at least there is that.

I was also able to sync to Outlook and get access to the Contacts, Memos, Tasks, and Calendar. I did not need a device password for any of this...

But I can't get the messages into outlook. I feel like there HAS to be a way to get the messages into outlook. Can't I flub an email account or something?

Thanks again for all the help.

Right... because it's not possible.

That's your Palm background talking. Palm syncs email... BlackBerry doesn't. End of story.
