Default Syncing Mail via USB?

Please Login to Remove!

I travel to Asia a a lot where I cannot get BB service, but still like to use the BB for PIM functions. In addition, for reference to mail I receive on my laptop while traveling, is it possible to transfer e-mail received on the laptop to my BB, via the USB if possible? Is Redirector part of the equation? If so, is it possible for me to switch back and forth between Redirector and BIS? I read somewhere that you have to use Exchange if you want to use Redirector? Surely that's not true?

Anyhow, lots of questions in one post.

To summarize:
(1) Is there any way to sync mail from Outlook via USB?
(2) Is it possible to switch back and forth between BIS and Redirector?
(3) Does Redirector require Exchange?

1. You cannot sync email via the USB regardless of the email platform BIS/BES
2. You can use both BIS and Redirector at the same time
3. Redirector requires MS Exchange.

But you can sync everything else in Outlook, Calendar, Notes, Tasks, so you could cut&paste certain emails into notes and then sync those. I know this isn't a pretty solution but might work if after reading your email on your laptop you find 1-5 emails you want to copy to your BB.

Hey Mitch - I'm new to the BB - my wife got an 8700 (Cingular) for Christmas. She doesn't have any corporate email system, so shes just forwarding that to her mycingular account, but she uses Outlook 2003 on her laptop for all contacts/calendar/tasks. Can that be synced via USB? If so which software do we need installed?

Thanks!

Uhm yeah, did you bother to install the software that came with the phone?

Yes, she just needs to install the DM which came on the CD with the BB on her laptop. Install the BIS (I believe the second option, which is NOT redirect).

This is how she should have started anyway. You don't want to waste the time entering phone numbers and email addresses directly into the BB. You get your contact information all set up in Outlook, and then with the DM and a USB cable sync your BB to Outlook, including contacts, calendar, tasks and notes.

I normally only sync mine about once a week, but since I have gone through 3 BBs in the last 8 weeks, I have never lost any contact information, just re-sync from outlook.
