Default 7510 to 7100i Upgrade Problems - Help!

Please Login to Remove!

I have had my Nextel 7510 for a little over a year. I decided to upgrade to a 7100i, but I did not want to lock into a new contract. So I found a lightly used one on Ebay. I thought I could just swap Sim cards, but when I did that I get "Sim Card Error" and the network only goes to nxTL. After an exhaustive search on this forum, I found a post that said the 32K card from the 7510 will not work in the 7100i. So I need a little help.

The phone came with a Sim, but it is programmed to the guy I bought it from. Potentially more of a problem for him since I was getting his e-mail...luckily I am an honest person and did a device reset. Now it is back to new, except his # is still on the Sim. From the searching I have done I can't change this, so I am not sure what to do.

Do I buy a new Sim card? If I do, does Nextel have to program it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Default Somewhat answered my own question

I can't get the 7510 card to work, but since I bought it with a Sim card Nextel can transfer it to my account. The only problem is the guy I bought it from sent it to me with an active card still in it! Lucky for him I am an honest person!

Now if the phone had come without a card I guess I would have been stuck, although I suppose I could have bought a card (they seem to be hard to find for this model).

Looks like you're going to have to buy a new SIM card or go through the hassle of getting that SIM off the person's account. The 7100i uses 64k SIM cards only, which is why the 7510's would not work. After you do that, Nextel would have to update it on their account, so you'd have to call in and have it taken care of with them.
