I've had an identical problem with my 8330, and found an interesting caveat. If and only if I set Mas Media mode to auto, remove password protection to my bb, then turn off the power, then plug in the bb and then turn power back on, I'll always get Mass media mode to work! However, if password protection is on, this method won't work.
I've duplicated this exact problem on three different computers, two with Vista one with XP, so it isn't computer related, it is a BB issue of some sort. The card has been formatted twice, it always works fine in the computer media slot, just not when in the BB. Anyone else have any ideas?
Are you using the same USB cable when you try it out on the different computers?
May have figured it out, sorta. I am using a 4GB Kingston microSD-- friend gave me their different brand microSD to try-- it brings up Mass Media mode every time without problems! Mine, despite the fact it works under the above special conditions, and always when plugged directly into the PC, appears to have some strange compatibility problem with the BB causing this behavior. Hope this helps someone else.
I have recently purchased a BB 8330 and have a Kingston 2gb card in mine. I am getting the exact same problem no matter what cable or computer I connect to. I'm headed to the store this afternoon to pickup another brand card to see if this will fix it.
Was hoping the Kingston would be reliable since it was the brand recommended and sold by my local corporate Alltel store.
Any updates to this problem? Did the new brand of card work?
I'm having a problem with this too. Mine used to work all the time. But stopped maybe a month ago. It doesn't go into mass mode ever now. I was having a problem getting it to connect to Desktop Manager at all, but I upgraded that to the latest version and it now connects with that. But my card is inaccessible from my PC. (Win XP).
In my case the new card worked and continues to work perfectly. They are so cheap these days that I suggest you just grab one somewhere-- that's probably the fix.
I faced the same problem with my curve 8320.
Card is not recognized by XP or VISTA but it can be accessed using Roxio media manager. It is strange. So I use Roxio media manager to copy/paste any file or folder. I tried with two cards (4gb and 2gb). Same both cards work fine with my Pearl 8100.
Still no solution. Accessing SD card using Roxio media manager!
