Default Getting Started on JDK

Could someone direct me to a resource on getting my environment setup to use the JDK... I cannot get a helloworld program to compile so I figure I'm missing something in my path or worse :D

Thanks!

Did you install J2SDK v1.4?

What is the error message you get when you try to compile?

Is the JDE able to even see the Java compiler?

AHA!
No I didn't - I havn't done java for some time now so it wasn't installed anymore... I musta formated since then

Install J2EE SDK now... I assume that will work, or do I need Micro-Edition or something?

Still a no-go. I tried adding the net_rim_api.jar into CLASSPATH environment variable as I read on the BB Forums someone fixed this error doing that... not sure what Error 2 is though

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.0\bin\rapc.exe -quiet import=..\..\lib\net_rim_api.jar codename=HelloWorld HelloWorld.rapc "C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.0\bin\HelloWorld\Hellow.java"

I/O Error: CreateProcess: javac -source 1.3 -target 1.1 -g -O -d C:\DOCUME~1\T\LOCALS~1\Temp\rapc_4b99662f.dir -bootclasspath ..\..\lib\net_rim_api.jar -classpath ..\..\lib\net_rim_api.jar "C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.0\bin\HelloWorld\Hellow.java" error=2

I just downloaded the JDE, and am having the same problem. Could it be a problem with the current version of the JDE? Has anyone else had success compiling the sample app?

I fixed the problem by:
- Uninstalling the RIM JDE
- Uninstalling J2EE SDK
- Installed J2SE SDK (the JDE says it needs that)
- Reinstalled JDE

Now I can compile, it appears without problem. I was unable to sucessfully run the HelloWorld app, I am missing something with the Resource file, I'm not sure. I did however create my own HelloWorld Program.

1. Create a New Workspace (I called it, HelloWorld)
2. Create a new Project in the Workspace (again, called HelloWorld)
3. Add a New *.java File (and you guessed it, HelloWorld.java)

Code:
import java.lang.*;
import net.rim.device.api.system.*;
import net.rim.device.api.ui.*;
import net.rim.device.api.ui.component.*;
import net.rim.device.api.ui.container.*;

class HelloWorld extends UiApplication xxx123;

    public static void main xxx40;Stringxxx91;xxx93; argsxxx41;xxx123;
        HelloWorld theApp = new HelloWorldxxx40;xxx41;;
        theApp.enterEventDispatcherxxx40;xxx41;;
    xxx125;

    HelloWorldxxx40;xxx41; xxx123;

        MainScreen screen = new MainScreenxxx40;xxx41;;
        screen.setTitlexxx40;new LabelFieldxxx40;"HelloWorld"xxx41;xxx41;;

        LabelField lblHello = new LabelFieldxxx40;"This is my first BlackBerry Application!"xxx41;;
        screen.addxxx40;lblHelloxxx41;;

        // Write to screen! Wooya!
        pushScreenxxx40;screenxxx41;;
    xxx125;;
xxx125;
4. Copy the compiled code (*.cod) file into your simulator/java directory(with my experimentation, it should also be in your simulator directory)

I hope this is helpfull to others?
