The upgrade to 4.5.0.56 has been a complete and utter nightmare for me, and it has put me into a spot I'm unable to get out of alone. Please help...
Here's where I am (note that I'm using Parallels 3.0 for Mac and DM 4.5):
- Upgraded to 4.5. It went fine, but it hung up on "Reconnecting to JVM" after installing the new OS on the phone. I had to manually kill DM to get out.
-When I would reconnect the phone, DM would still prompt me to complete the upgrade...
-With 4.5 on the phone, DM cannot communicate with the phone in any meaningful way--the only communication consists of DM knowing that the phone is connected. Any attempt to upgrade OS immediately hangs on "Connecting to JVM." Any attempt to backup immediately hangs. Trying to get into the app loader just crashes DM. Nothing.
-When I plug the phone in, the phone briefly displays the "Connected to Desktop" screen (about 5 seconds) and then goes into normal operation.
-Since 4.5, the phone will also no longer communicate with Pocketmac, so I can't even sync contacts.
-I tried to wipe the phone, hoping that would rid it of whatever offensive thing was causing all of this... but no.
So, I'm left with a freshly reset 8130 with an apparently not-quite-complete installation of 4.5.0.56 that cannot be synced in any way. Is there any way for me to manually wipe the OS off the phone without using DM? I feel that getting 4.5 off of it will solve a lot of this.
I just did the Security > General Options wipe. I was hoping that it would also reset the OS to the fresh-from-Sprint state, but I doubted it would work.
The wipe did "work" in that it did wipe all the phone's data, but it did nothing to help the connection problems.
I like the looks of that... trying it now. Will advise.
Update: Jl Cmder didn't work, but starting the app loader with the battery out while the LED was lit did work. That method succeeded in wiping the device and reloading the OS. I first tried 4.5.0.56 again to see if it would complete. It seemed like it did, but afterward, I still couldn't connect to DM at all
So, I attempted to downgrade to 4.3, since that had been working well for me for quite some time. This was a disaster.
Uninstalled 4.5 from my PC and put 4.3 in its place, started app loader from the command line (loader.exe /nojvm). It wiped 4.5, but would not reinitialize the phone, leaving me with a 507 error. Tried about 6 times to get past this, but nothing would work. It eventually stopped giving me the 507... the LED would just blink 4 times, stop, and repeat.
Put 4.5 back on the machine and tried again. Currently loading the OS now. WTF is the problem... 4.3 won't reload... 4.5 won't communicate. Worst. Upgrade. Ever.
UPDATE: Solved. I did nothing I didn't do before, but reloading 4.5 worked this time. Whatever.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction above; that made the difference.
Should anyone else come across a similar issue, I believe I've found the problem and its workaround. Thanks to mszablocky on the Parallels forum.
If you use BDM from within Parallels 3.0 for Mac (or presumably any prior version of it too), when you connect the USB cable to the BB, you'll only have about 5 seconds before the USB connection dies. If you try to initiate anything in BDM after that, everything crashes. So, you need to start what you're doing in BDM and get to within a click or two from initiating the BB communication, THEN plug in the BB. That way, once you make your final click, your USB connection will not yet have died, and it will work.
For example, to do a backup. Get into BDM, and click Backup. Then plug in the BB, and immediately click backup and Save, and it will work. If your BB falls back to the home screen before you hit "Save," it's done, and you need to start over.
Not sure what causes this behavior within Parallels, but it is what it is, and that workaround seems to work.
