Talking Latest 8820 OS: v 4.2.2.193 (T-Mobile USA)

Please Login to Remove!

Handheld Software (v 4.2.2.193) for 8820

Click->>>>>download link
Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8820:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed.
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

To find the previous OS version for this device, click

LMAO! Right after I update too.

EDIT - Alright, it doesn't work anymore. Seems only T-Mobile customers can access this? Who wants to host the file?

.338 is the whole package version. Tmobile doesn't specify the package version for this release, so I only use .193 (handheld version) as the version title.

Since most releases don't include change log, initially it is really hard for us to tell whether the phone will run faster than older version. However, RIM/carriers keep releasing new OS to address bugs/stability/performance issues that they or carriers have found in previous release. Therefore, if your current OS works for you, you don't need to update to the latest. For some users like me who prefer to have the latest, give it a shot.

Default improvement

Has anyone noticed any improvements over .184? Apparently .184 is somewhat sluggish from what I hear. Any truth to this?

The download link that has been provided takes me to the download page for a BB 8820, however, when I click on the 4.2.2.193 download link, it just redirects back to the T-Mobile phones page. Anyone else running into this problem? Does anyone have the installer downloaded and is there any way to upload it to a file host for the rest of us?

Thanks!

there should be multiple links there. the top one is labeled "Handheld software". is that what you are clicking? The download works for me.

That's the link I'm clicking. The link you just included redirects to the T-Mobile phones page again, at least for me. I am familiar with http sessions and realize that could have been an issue, however I don't think that is what's going on for me. I have tried the links in Firefox, IE, and Opera to no avail. My sister has T-mobile (I do not) and I went through the formal steps for a T-mobile customer (using her phone number) to get to the downloads area (ie. entering a valid T-mobile phone number), but all the links there again redirect to the phones page.

Not sure at all why it's working for some, but not on my computer. I'm going to try another route...

UPDATE: I figured out what was going on. I have ZoneAlarm Pro and for some reason it was intercepting the download link and re-writing it which in turn sent me back to the phone page. Anyway, disabled ZoneAlarm and tried the link--worked and downloading now!

Default No vendor.xml file

Hi,

I don't have the vendor.xml file in the AppLoader folder and I just purchases my 8820. Is this OK? Can I install the new OS?

Thanks!

I have an unlocked AT&T 8820 with T-Mobile service. Will the T-Mobile OS version enable UMA?

You will see the vendor.xml file once you install the OS to the PC. Delete it.

Actually with the T-Mo OS's you don't have to delete the vendor.xml file, because it's blank anyway. But it's good to not confuse anyone and just delete it.

Here's the blackberry.alx file for unlocked themes. Just change the .txt to .alx.
