Default Telus switch to GSM affect?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey Guys,

I know nothing about networking and calling Telus for answers only resulted in "oh don't worry about it" without specific answers.

I've read Telus initiating it's GSM network no later than the Olympics in Vancouver next year. For me to purchase a Tour right now from Telus which is currently running on the HDMA(?) network, would I be affected as a user of this phone when the GSM network is started?

I'm sure you folks here can help out with my concern. Again I know didly about networking, I just don't want to get a new blackberry to find out in a few months I'll have issues due to networking with Telus.

cheers.

The tour has a slot for a SIM card, which runs from GSM networks. Has Telus informed you of a plan of how they will send out SIM cards to all of their customers?

With all the uncertainty of how any CDMA to GSM transition will play out, it's a bad time to be buying a Telus device or starting a new contract. I wouldn't make big move right now as you just don't know how this whole thing will play out.

If you really need a new phone, a "world phone" like the Tour is probably your least risky move. I think your best move would be to explore other carriers.
