Well considering Sprint just got the 7130e - I think it may be a bit. Plus it seems that the GSM carriers seem to be BlackBerry's friend. I went to the Cingular 8700c release party last November and they stated that they were the #1 partner to RIM. So it only makes sense to keep that partnership going. I for one am leaving Sprint soon and switching to Cingular.

Mmm...no good!!! Man I wish Sprint would man-up and dish up some major cash for what I think may be a true TREO killer. Go Blackberry!!!! I for one can't wait till I get rid of my constant resetting Treo and get a blackberry. Just dont know whether to get 7130e or wait for the PEARL badass!!!!

Not anytime soon, that CDMA stuff always takes forever that is why 70% of the world uses GSM technology

You have it exactly backwards: Because most of the world uses GSM, that is why device manufacturers tend to release GSM versions first.

But some of us are on CDMA becasue of our companies that give us our BB.
And why does it take so long to get cmad bb out, how much diffrent is a 71xx or 87xx from cdma to gsm (beside the radio)?

I bet there will be a CDMA 81xx around mid Q1 of 2007...

The Sprint merger completely ruined the excellent Nextel support and devices that we once had. I don't anticipate anything cutting edge from them in the near future. We won't be seeing the Pearl anytime soon.

If they were smart, they would try to be the first to market the full QWERTY BB with the trackball, etc. But I won't hold my breath!

LoL XBoogie, me and my bestfriend who are on sprint and fellow bb geeks, said the same thing. He predicted that the whole Nextel merger would just go poo poo on everything, including how Sprint used to get the nice and more modern phones first before all the nextel stuff happened. I mean look, they were the first ones to offer 1xRTT pre evdo 2.5G service and really do wonders with vision. Man i wish those days were still afoot, but unfortunately, they just need to make do of what they can get. Now they are lagging behind, and now Verizon is beating them to the punch on the phones. Though I would have to say, Sprint does have the better service plans by far, as i hate how Verizon has things setup. I currently have the 199.99 Unlimited free and clear, and thats by far the best plan for me, since i need to be both on the phone and email all the time. Hell I even have unlimited txt messaging for only $5 a month, versus the txt msging 2500 cap from verizon, which costs 3x more.

But yes, if they did offer "better" phones and combined them with there "better" service plans, man oh man, i think they would be in a better disposition.

PLEASE OH PLEASE!!! 8100 is hot but I will settle for a sexy 8700 too. Please, I can't take anymore of my Treo resetting every 3 seconds, literally. 8700 is solid an the 8100 just came out. Seems to be just as buggy as the new iTunes!!

Why are people so in love with their carriers? I don't understand the kind of allegiance people have to a specific carrier that doesn't give a crap about you.

Why be loyal to a service provider that can't provide you with the latest devices?

From this entire thread, this is the quote that makes me sit up and take notice ... BG's track record with pre-release info is hard to ignore.

Consider, however:

When the 71xx first launched we were told a CDMA version should come 6 months in the future; it took a year.

When the 8700 first launched were were told a CDMA version should come 6 months in the future; it took a year.

Spring is the slowest retail period of the year; product launches in the spring make very little sense.

So, when people ask me about a CDMA Pearl, I have a hard time saying anything but "this time next year".
