Default End-call Key on keyboard making strange sound

Please Login to Remove!

After doing a search, I found some others had issues with a key on their keyboard making a "clicking" sound, but this is a little different.

My End Call key makes a strange, "sticky tape" sound.

Every single time I touch the end call key, it sounds like I'm pulling tape off of something. It was quite annoying the first time I heard it, and it's been bothering me more and more each day.

My questions:
Is this the same thing some people have experienced and called a "click"?
Is there anything I can do to fix it myself or should I send the phone back now?

It seems silly to me, to return a phone (I'll have to ship it back, and wait for a return, which could take upwards of 1 week where I'll be out of a cellphone) if it's a simple fix that I can handle myself, or if it will just go away in time.
But then again, it seems silly to load all of my programs and email addresses etc etc etc onto the phone only to find out it's never going to go away and have to send the phone back at a later date.

For me it was the * key that made a click or kind of stuck in one corner. I was still within my 14-day return period so I took it back to the same store I got it and exchanged it. I've had no problems since.

As far as fixing it yourself... I didn't want to try. You paid too much for the phone for it to not work right.

yeh you're right, I'm gonna call up and get an RMA number. Hopefully I'll only be out of a phone for a few days, and hopefully I get one with no issues this time

my new T-Mo Pearl does the same thing. when you press the "End" key, it sounds like there's a piece of plastic wrap or something underneath it

Mine was the 6 and L keys. I just ignored it and it went away after about 2 weeks of moderate use. The "sticker" must have worn out its stickiness by then.

this key is driving me nuts, I don't think I'll last 2 weeks.

That's pretty sad =P I'm so bothered by it I can't put up with it for even a little while lol

I called the place I got it from and got an RMA number. I just hope the next one I get doesn't have any issues

Kudos I feel your pain! I get the sticky sound on my End and P key, and a little on the Enter key. It's driving me nuts! I got mine off a private sale so I don't really have a choice but to either fix it myself or hope it goes away!

As a quick and temporary fix, you can try pressing down on the button really hard for a bit. This will stick the overlay for the keyboard back down, but eventually it comes back up.

With the recent posting of the disassembly steps, I've been hesitantly contemplating opening it up and fixing the "stick" myself. If anybody wants to try it first... document and share!

I was considering it as well....we'll see what happens after I send this one back, If it gives me the same issues, I'll be pretty tempted to attempt the fix myself

I don't get that crinkling tape sound under the 'end call' key, but I get a very annoying squeak sound from the 'space/0' key when its pressed. Like fingernails on a chalkboard sound to me... I seem to recall my 7100t doing the same thing after a while, but the pearl is only 2 weeks old...

i opened it up before. my 4 key was making the click....it was nothing i could fix (or dare to) so i just called in for a replacement. the process isn't so bad. they ship a replacement out to you. you keep your current phone in the meantime. then swap out and ship back the old one. paid $10 to have it shipped out to me.

i love my blackberry pearl...but it is ridiculous that RIM let's an obvious defect in the manufacturing of these phone continue on and on....i want to switch to the 8800....but am waiting to see if it has the clicking keys defect first.

My OP key makes the clicking sound but only the first time i press it after a while. After pressing it once it sounds like all the other keys. It must be the mat that the keys are on.

My end-call key made a beep, a sort of slapstick comedy noise. Every time I pressed it I heard "BEEP!" and my Messages folder opened up, regardless of the application I was in. I played with it for a little while to get my kicks, showed it to all my coworkers, then just popped the battery out and back in, and no problems to date. I just want to ask if anyone else had that problem, and if so... WHY?

There was prob a glitch in the OS where it was confusing the key being pressed. If a hard reset fixed it then it was a software issue and not a hardware one.
