Perhaps you should try this.

1. Uninstall everything BB-related software from your computer (ie desktop manager, 4.5 OS software, etc). Perhaps the computer software is confused hence the "Unknown USB error".
2. Then install all the BB-related software that came with your BB. Just to get your BB back to a "running" condition.
3. If 1 and 2 is successfully, then you can retry the OS 4.5 upgrade.

I hope this helps and best of luck.

Default hey

I had the same problem twice. what i did was i tried a soft reset which is alt, the right caps, and delete. All at the same time. Then if that desn't work just reinstall everything I mean everything install the newest desktop manager (4.7) then install the newest OS for the 8310 and make sure you delete the vendor file at computer/program files/common files/research in motion/app loader... then open the desktop software and plug in your bb and if nothing happens then i don't think there is anything you can do. And if you do have to get a new one under warranty don't tell them what you did duh tell them you did nothing just lie.

now depending on if you have vista and you have a 64 bit OS it might be under program files (x86)

Everything here has failed, my blackberry has yet to turn on, let alone connect to my computer, thanks for trying to help, but it looks as if I have completely broken my blackberry, and I will have to get a new one, unless theres some strategy you have not told me about yet, if there is tell me now, if not, then im screwed. There is absolutely no answer to my problem at the moment.

OK that hasn't worked either, i will just tell them my thing froze canceled it, unplugged it and it stopped working, I don't know if that voids the warranty, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't I just got it, and there's insurance on it for just about everything

Default It will

don't tell them you were updating it... self user updating kills the warranty just say that when you plugged it into the wall it fried and they will send you a new one for free but you use the same battery and same battery door and if you don't send back the old one they charge you for the full price so send the old one back immediately!
