Default virgin bold 9700 - unlock help needed

Please Login to Remove!

(i originally posted this on another thread ... but maybe this is a better place for it!)
first off ... let me say: THANK THE GODS I FOUND THIS SITE!!!
that said ...

so my daughter ... a good loyal young customer of virgin ... won a blackberry bold 9700 from virgin. yay for her!!!
but she has NO interest in owning a blackberry. yay for dad
but dad is an aliant-bell customer. maybe not yay for dad

so i start reading up on the details on how to unlock a phone ... it sounds easy enough: give somebody some numbers off the unit. pay them some money. they give you directions and some more numbers. you work some magic on the blackberry. TADA ... it is unlocked!
is that it ... i then call up aliant and they allow me to activate my nice new precious and we are all happy. i pay the data package to aliant and that is the end of the story.
sounds to good too be true ... and if it sounds too good to be true. it likely is
any feedback ... can somebody help me?

Default Check with our carrier 1st...

Sometimes if you explain to the custom service rep that you are going out of the country and would like to unlock your phone. Many times, they will unlock your phone for free.

T-Mobile has done this for me on all of my phones, both those purchased from them AND those I purchased privately from individuals.
