Default Curve 8310 Password

Please Login to Remove!

I bought my new curve last November and I installed the software on my PC for managing photo's etc. I must have set up a password on the PC but never had to use a password on my device. Yesterday I wanted to put some of the photos I had taked onto my pC so I connected my device and was asked for a password on the PC. I could not remember setting up a password so I just guessed a few of the normal passowrds I use. I also tried "blackberry" as a friend suggested that was the default password. This did not work.

After about seven attempts I gave up thinking I could e-mail the photos to myself and get them off the phone that way. When I disconnected the phone and went to e-mail the photos I was asked for a password. I can not access my phone now and I only have one more password attempt.

Surely the password for the software should be independant from the phone!

Is there any way of accessing my phone? Somebody suggested taking a backup so I would not lose everything. However I need the password to access the backup module of the software.

Any suggestions?

You cannot access it without the password. That's all I know. You will most definitely lose all the data after your last back-up.

Let's wait for other comments from the experts.

I haven't had enough coffee yet for this one! :P Ok, it sounds like you either somehow restore another devices data that had a password on it or somehow inherited an IT policy that was lurking on the PC. Is it a work issue PC?

Is it just the Media Card that you can't access or the entire device?

Worst case scenario is that after the 10th attempt (or less depending on setting) the phone will be usable again but all data will be lost. Actually, I think the data on the Media Card may still be there but you'd better wait for others to comfirm.

Sorry and good luck!

Or just remove the Media Card before the 10th attemp, just in case, but I believe it will be safe.

Something went amiss.....

When you enter the password incorrectly 10 times the device will wipe clean.... You will loose everything on the device but stuff on the media card will be safe....

The media card should be safe.

EDIT: I'm slow.

Duh! See I told you I hadn't had enough coffee yet!! Maybe I had better stay off the board until I have finished my first cup! I could be dangerous on here! Ha!

Good Luck!

Wait, you have used this BB since last November, and today is the only time it has asked for a password? I may have missed someting in the OP, but how did you get past not having to enter a PW since last November?

is it only enabled on the Media Card?

No- It is just my personal home computer. I cannoot access anything on my device. The only password I have been using on the device since I got it is the unlock password. The one where the phone locks itself after a couple of minutes inactive. I remember this password but it is asking me for another password. For the last few appempts it said enter "blackberry" as aprompt to enter the default password

It only asked me for the password after I connected it to my pc. It seems that the password requirement for accessing the software on the pc was transferred to the phone

Now, its not the same as your lock password? Whenever you connect the BB to PC it should require you to enter the unlock pw to do anything.

Yes I tried that password also on the pc. When I use up a password attempt on the PC it also uses one on the device and vice versa

That is correct. I have just never seen the PC ask for a DIFFERENT password than the lock pw. Sorry I can't help more, good luck.

When the memory is wiped after the tenth attempt will it still ask for a password other than my unlock password?

It will at a minimum allow you to set a new one. If an IT Policy is in place it may make you set one. There are ways to remove the policy but you have to type in the last try so that you can access to check.
