I had another whiteout. What's the best way to debug these problems...?

Once the service books were deleted, my appointments and calendar entries appeared on the home screen.
I decided to resend my service books and at that point the entries disappeared from my home screen. It doesn't seem to matter which calendar is select in "default services", none allow my appointments to properly display on the home screen. Only solution seems to be deleting the service books...
Any other suggestions? Once the service books are deleted, there is no default calendar option in the default services screen (which is to be expected).

I haven't tried the steps yet but once I get home tomorrow I try it out and let you know if it works or not.

Sounds good. I deleted my calendar service books yesterday and everything is still working fine.

I had few blackouts today and yesterday evening... Phone stops responding - first freeze was at the point where i want to unlock keyboard - no matter what i pressed the screen stayed the same.. so i puled out battery at the end.
then today phone blacked out - (blank screen) few times... just red led blinking, but just until i pressed something on keyboard. then it stopped blinking all together
pulleg out media card (but i am sure it was formatted under 4.5)... will see what happens next.

Hey everyone,
I'm hoping you can tell me what I did wrong. Just updated to the new OS and followed the 'memory guide' that walked me through the editing of the blackberry.alx and Java folder.
I'd done this before w/ no issues, but this time the theme is all messed up on the new OS. I have a white background w/ all black outlined icons, except third party. Going to options and picking one of the bbdimension themes that I was suggested to leave doesn't do anything. Only the 'None' theme will apply, all others do nothing when I click them???
Everything else is working fine!
Any ideas?

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)
Sounds like you removed one of the dimension themes from the java folder. If I had to guess, I'd say Dimension zen. Put it back and run the application loader again.

Thnx John Clark! That worked like a champ. I thought I'd followed your guide to a tee and removed all but the icon, l, and today of bb_dimension. Guess I missed the zen one!
Thnx

This is my first upgrade of the OS on a BlackBerry. I have done this before on Palm and on WM devices. But, our company uses BES and so I have just used my device as is out of the box. But, I'm wanting to give this a whirl and see if there is any advantages. I am presently running an 8820 on AT&T v4.2.2.169 so this would be a major upgrade.
I cannot tell from the two stickies which one I should select, the:
OS 8820 4.5.0.72 / 4.5.0.52 (MultiLanguage)
<OR>
OS: 8800 4.5.0.81 / 4.5.0.55 (Multilanguage)

you should use neither. Your device is an 8830. You need an OS for an 8830. There is a sticky for the latest OS for the 8830 but it's not 4.5.

No, I have a GSM 8820 from ATT. I do not have a CDMA 8830.

Ok...well, then load the 8820 OS.
Your profile says 8830/Sprint. And I missed where you said you had an 8820.

LOL. Indeed it does. My company switched me from Sprint to ATT a few months back. I need to change my profile. I haven't been here in a while. Thank you for both your answer and looking out for a potential clumsy mistake.

No problem. Your post plainly said 8820/ATT but I quickly glanced at your profile and went with that.

So far, so good.
I'm going to check the other thread about the wallpapers and folder icons.

Wow. This is a major upgrade for me.
I'm not sure how this could be OS related - but, the phone reception seems much better than before. I have not received the red "SOS" only (no bars at all) icon in my house yet. That was constant with the previous version. Why would that be affected, I wonder?
The thing I like most of all is the improved WiFi speed, and better interface for cal, email, address book. Spell check is so much better.
I'm really impressed, actually. I had hoped for HTML email. Maybe that is forthcoming too.
Thanks for such a wonderful site, without which, I wouldn't have upgraded.

Kudos to penpower...upgrade to my 8800 went smooth and the new firmware is awesome. The only thing that didn't reload was "Maps", but no matter...forced me to finally switch to Google Maps.
There is definitely a performance boost in the browser!

You can still load "Maps" if you want by going through the Desktop Manager, then Application Loader.

No, BBMaps won't load in OS 4.5. You have to download an earlier version that doesn't require a service book.

Sill no HTML email in this release, right? I just want to make sure there isn't some kind of option to turn it on that I am missing. The interface is different, more elegant, but, still no HTML for me.

All versions of 4.5 have html for all BIS users. BES users need BES version 4.1.6 for html email.
Resend your service books.
