I have a working 9000. But had dropped it a cpl of times like we all have..after which I could not keep the back cover on. Was about to go to Telus and upgrade to a 9780..but thought that given both my young adults had upgraded their 9000's, we had 2 spare units I could attempt to cannibalize.
Torx # 5 screw driver required along with a hard plastic clip - guitar pic would work too.!
With my 17 yr old daughters help (small hands), we took apart the three units with help from a vid on U-tube.
Bold 9000 Dissasembly pretty easy stuff. We ended up fixing my unit (screws were loose...), and a white one that had the white screen of death. Once mine was done by also exchanging a keypad and tightening the screws, we mixed and matched and came up with the result that the white phones issue (white screen), was in fact the LCD display. So now I have a fully functional spare Bold 9000 .. mostly white with a black LCD.!
We started with 3 phones. only 1 working with a worn out keypad and a backing that would not stay on. Ended up with two working phones plus spare parts that with a new ball assy and LCD will leave me with 2 spares.!
...all told took 'bout 3/4 of an hour.
Money spent: $24.95 on a 30 in 1 precision screwdriver set from Cdn Tire.
Money not spent..?? prolly $499 CAD retail for a 9780, money saved
not going on a 3 yr contract or going to repair depot..cpl hun at least..! Learning how to fix something by ones self + doing something constructive with my Teen daughter...PRICELESS.!!
