Does anyone know what version of Google Maps has the GPS capability? I have Google Maps for Pocket PC on my HP HW6945 and that works just great with GPS.
WTF - my understanding was that GMM only works with Helio and GPS and no others. Don't expect it on the 8800.

So you are just saying from blackberry.mobile. It will come along very quickly I suspect. I also bet Telenav works.

Guys, I found out something else. And it works with GPS on 8800

I am attaching the folder. Use the Application Loader on Desktop Manager to load the ALX onto the 8800.

GPS works just fine with Google Maps data!

Can you post screen shots. Are you saying you have Google maps working with GPS. This will bust open the sales of the 8800 if that is true.

No no, not with Google Maps. The Java program actually pulls data from Google Maps server.

Its just a java program made by someone to work on BlackBerry and to use internal GPS. What it does is uses the GPS and pulls Google Maps Data from server using EDGE. It has a bunch of neat functions.

I'll post screenshots in a bit.

Interesting. Google Maps data comes mostly from Navteq but some from TeleAtlas too. Thanks for doing this. You have the bbscreenshooter. Great program.

Cingular is pushing the $10 to use telenav feature. The rep that sold me my 8800 earlier today tried to push it on me, and I told him I had used telenav on my 8800 and was not interested.

Hopefully the Blackberry maps application will include functionability for the 8800

I gave up on J2ME application. It was too slow for GPS, and completely useless if you're actually on the move.

I went back to BlackBerry Maps and played around with it a bit. Here are some screen shots.

First post here, hi everybody. I may be getting one of these next week, my question is...does any of the nav software work internationally? Say Australia?

Thanks.

The BBMaps looks the same as what is on the 8700. What is the version number in applications. Mine is 1.0.70. It's called LBS.

Yes sir, same thing as the 8700

Version # 1.0.70

I'm sure there's an updated version for the 8800, it just doesn't freaking work yet. Quite annoying, if you ask me.

Thanks so much. This is huge as I travel a lot. I love my 8700, but this feature is worth the upgrade.

So I'm a little confused, does Google Maps work with GPS that is built into the 8800? From the web page it appears no.

No it should not and we have not heard that it does. Only on the Helio phone.

No idea on the 8800, but Google Maps works with my HP Ipaq hw6945 Pocket PC Phone w/ GPS, and its much smoother than most GPS enabled software out there.

Because it works with my HP w/ GPS, I'm assuming it most likely works with other devices with GPS support.

Google Maps on your Windows Mobile Device
Contacts integration and GPS functionality make this version of Google Maps, available for Windows Mobile 2003 and higher, even easier to use. Download the CAB, or visit Google Maps on your mobile web browser.

Get GPS-Enabled Google Maps on your Helio Drift
GPS functionality helps you find yourself (the little blue dot) right on the map. Just navigate to your Apps menu to download.

Google Maps on your Treo
Now you can download Google Maps on your Palm OS 5 device. Download the PRC, or visit Google Maps on your mobile web browser.

How did you get the Blackberry maps application on your 8800? I tried to install it from that download and it would not work

I found this online so far. But I can take some screen shots of my hw6945 with Google Maps w/ GPS later on.

It looks exactly the same.

Did you point your BlackBerry browser exactly to this address?

http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.4....00_v4_0_L1.jad

It downloaded and installed just fine on the 8800.

You may want to send that address to yourself in an SMS or something, so you can copy paste it into your browser.
