In Canada all the wireless carriers use 1, 2, 3 year term commitments. Longer the term commitment accepted by the customer entitles them to lower cost payment on a device (ie: smartphone, cellphone or HSDPA/EDGE data card). Term commitments are a reality and the only viable alternative than paying full price on hardware. Not many people can afford to pay up front $600.00 and up on new hardware such as the Blackberry Curve from the manufacturer. This is why many believe when Rogers gets the Apple iPhone it will be available at lower cost on a term commitment than what our neighbours in the USA paid to have an unsubsidized iPhone on a 2 year term commitment through AT&T. Anyway, at least with Rogers we can do a hardware upgrade on an exisiting line every 12 months where as with Telus it's every 36 months. Unless Bell Mobility has changed their policy I think they still run a hardware upgrade program eligibility every 24 months. Are you able to use the hardware upgrade program with AT&T every 12 months or is it a longer wait?
