Recently whenever i plug my charger into my bold or i put it in it's charging dock it seems to restart. Sometimes it's just a case of it turns off and reboots but other times it will turn off and present me with a battery empty screen the whole time it is charging.

It has also taken to turning itself off when it still has plenty of battery and telling me "battery drained, shutting down handheld".

Any suggestions guys? Perhaps the battery is knackered or do we think i should just replace the entire device?

I've only had it about 8 months or so so it's not like it's an old phone or anything.

Sounds like you are getting an electrical short. Check the pins on the USB drive of your computer, on your BB, and that your USB cable it not damaged at either end.
