I am not going to be able to answer your question to your satisfaction (I don't use Google) but here is some information.
I have several email accounts, Yahoo, two ISP accounts that are hosted by Yahoo, and a Windows Live (now Outlook.com). All are configured as IMAP and all but one of ISP receive new email just as instantaneously as if I was using BIS. I assume Gmail will be same as push but I can't say first hand.
Also, I have noticed many recommending switching to Outlook.com because of EAS and it works well. Don't know if that is something you would consider or not.
Thanks for the tip. For what ever reason it is now working after leaving the phone alone for 12 hours i assume it has finally synced up and it pushes. Wish i knew exactly what caused it to work but my guess would be patience is the key here for new OS10 users like myself.
If you setup the new device in the last day or so then I would say that's it. It seems it may take a day or even a couple of days to do the sync'ing, indexing, and other overhead stuff. Many notice battery life and responsiveness improve a lot after a few days. Also, many notice the same thing again after an OS upgrade.
