Your new phone will have the latest Verizon approved version of the firm ware. It's not any of the leaked versions you see on this website and it's not the upcoming version everyone talks about, but it will be 4.7.

The first thing you should do is get to know your phone, especially since it's your first Blackberry. While the others have been playing with all the leaked versions of OS I have been using the 4.7 with no problems at all.

1. Read the user guide

2. Read the 9500 Forum

3. Read the FAQ.

4. Use your device and get to know it before you start trying to fix what isn't broken. I never recommend to a new user to update the OS and risk bricking the device.

strobez1977,

Your Storm will come with OS .75, which is fine for a first time BB owner.

Do yourself a huge favor. Use the phone for a full 30 days before dabbling in the beta OS realm. Get to know your Storm and how it functions with OS .75. Surf this forum and tweak the settings to your liking. By the end of a month of handling your Storm, you will have an idea of the flaws and what you would like to see improved.

Then load either .99 or .103. These are IMO the two most stable OS builds out there in the beta world. You will then have a full appreciation of what improvement comes with these to OS builds.
