Same here, I don't think it's that much of a drain, I leave it on full time, and I'm almost always in range.
The best battery saving advice I've heard is to turn the display brightness down to 10 - you'd think it would be too dark, but it's fine and makes a big battery difference, even with minimal use. I used to get down to 20% regularly, now it's rare I get below 50 unless I am having a heavy usage day.
