BB9900 keeps turning off
Please Login to Remove!
Hi,
I'm new to the forum. yesterday i plugged in a aftemarket charger to my bb9900 and it turned off. Since then i am able to boot up but the device will turn off within a minute of so. To reboot i have to do a battery pull and then the same story repeats.
Funnily, if my phone is connected to the PC or to the mains charger then it doesn't turn off.
can someone suggest a solution please.

Re: BB9900 keeps turning off
I've been sitting connected and playing around with the BB and these are few things i've noticed.
1. I cannot delete my music from the phone via the desktop manager. any error occurs.
2. If i'm talking on the phone, even when it is disconnected it doesn't turn off. the moment i end my call, the phone turns off.

Re: BB9900 keeps turning off
Sounds like either a bad charger and a dead battery, a bad battery, or both.
If you really need your device, my use a third party charger? Some can even damage the device if it doesn't have the proper specs and safeguards.
Does it charge when connected to the PC using Desktop Manager?
Solution: Get a real Blackberry charger made for your device and see if that fixes the problem. If not, get an OEM battery made for your device.

Re: BB9900 keeps turning off
Weird. While reading, I was thinking the aftermarket charger damaged the device. But then you say it stays on while the phone is in use, but then shuts off when the phone is turned off. That isn't consistent with a bad battery, and I don't think it is consistent with a power problem in general, but that latter I'm not sure of.
I agree with Dub, just generally, I would stay away from other chargers, other than OEM, unless it is something in the Built For BlackBerry program. That said, maybe the problem happening when you used the charger is coincidental. It sounds like it may be, to me.
I would try a security wipe. Select the option to delete user-installed apps. See what happens. If that doesn't fix it, do a clean reinstall of the OS, and then test. In both cases, test before you do anything else, before you restore data, before you restore apps, first thing.

Re: BB9900 keeps turning off
thank you Ira,
i'm just doing a security wipe. i'll get back with the results. i have tried to reinstall the OS via the desktop manager but i get an error and cannot do so.
Is there any other way to install the OS without going through the desktop manager. i have downloaded the latest OS file from the BB site - its about 280MB but don't know the steps to install it. I read through a lot of sites but wasn't clear on the process. Any links would really help

Re: BB9900 keeps turning off
thanks dubdub,
the aftermarket charger was a BIG mistake. never again.
its charging perfectly fine via the USB cable and via the electrical charger. it doesn't even turn off while its connected. As i said, if i'm on a call it and not connected it doesn't turn off either. it turns off only if IDLE and not connected to a charger. i'm not sure if its a battery issue.
any other thoughts?.

Re: BB9900 keeps turning off
See the latest OS thread here on the forum for your model for the information. You don't need to delete the vendor file if the OS came from your carrier. If in doubt, delete it, it won't hurt.
I'm leaning to hardware fault now. I can't explain it.
I think you need to reinstall the OS to confirm. If you can try another battery before, that would be better. I have doubts it is the battery, but who knows.

Re: BB9900 keeps turning off
I've tried the security wipe. no luck.
I just clean installed the operating system. no luck.
it continues to work perfectly well once plugged in (comp or wall) and will turn off within a minute if its unplugged.
i'll have to try a different battery. maybe i messed this one up with the aftermarket charger.
Thank you for all your help.

Either a bad battery or a hardware problem.
