COMPUTER EXECUTIVES excessively proud of their Blackberry devices could find themselves wondering why the thing re-boots for no apparent reason.

That could be because there is hole in Wireless Handheld 3.x which allows a denial of service attack from outside.

According to Secunia, which reports Hexview's notification of the problem, the Blackberry can't handle request messages with strings larger than 128K in the "location" field. The watchdog timer resets the device.

The vulnerability, said Secunia, has been reported in handheld software version 3.7 service pack one, but prior versions may also be affected.
