Thumbs down Voice Command on 8900: HELP! I Want It Completely GONE!!!

Please Login to Remove!

I just have a very simple, very easy request: Someone, anyone, please...

TELL ME HOW TO GET THIS VOICE COMMAND SOFTWARE COMPLETELY OFF OF MY BLACKBERRY 8900 BEFORE I CHUCK THE THING OUT OF THE WINDOW!!!

I know that some of you here LOVE your Voice Command function. I know that some of you swear by it to the point that you probably can't conceive of anyone NOT liking it. Let me assure you right now that I AM NOT YOU. I can not STAND Voice Command, I do NOT use it, I have ZERO use for it, and the fact that RIM put it on my BlackBerry 8900 as a standard feature that CAN NOT be fully disabled is royally me off! At least 80% of the time, when I use the Answer/End button on my Bluetooth headset to end the phone call I'm on, that mother Voice Command software comes on! I've gone into the settings for it, and disabled every option it will let me disable, but I still can not get the crap to just go away and DIE!

So, the first person that actually tells me how to remove this obnoxious Voice Command crap completely from my 8900 will get a !

Need more motivation? I also have cookies!

Thanks in advance!

Download 4.6.1.206 software from the sticky above. Follow instructions on installing the OS.

BEFORE you connect yor BB to upgrade (step 3), Go to the following directory:

Quote:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8900-v4.6.1.206_P4.2.0.102\Java
Do a search for any files that contain "vad". So do a search for *vad*

Copy these files to a subdirectory "Removed"

Plug in your BB and proceed with the upgrade. Voice activated dialing will be gone.

** This works with any version OS, so if you want to keep .114, you can **

Thanks a lot!

I had also posted my question over at Howard Forums, on their RIM Forum, and a gentleman over there posted a complete list of the file names to look for. For the sake of others that might also wish to delete the Voice Command software, here's what he posted:

Go to where your BBOS is located if you've installed an OS to the desktop to install to a device. It's located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files. Find the one for the 8900 (usual filename of 8900-v4.6.1.206_P4.2.0.102 for example) and then make a folder in the OS folder called Removed Modules. After you've done that then place the following CODs in that folder.

net_rim_vad.cod
net_rim_vad_resource.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__en.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__en_US.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__en_GB.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__de.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__de.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__fr.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__fr.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__fr_CA.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__it.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__it.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__es.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__es.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__es_MX.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__pt.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__pt_BR.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__pt_BR.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__hu.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__ca.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__cs.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__nl.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__nl.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__pl.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__pl.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__tr.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__ru.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__ru.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__zh_CN.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__zh_CN.cod
net_rim_vad_engine_resource__zh_HK.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__ar.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__ja.cod
net_rim_vad_resource__he.cod

After you've done this, connect your device to the Desktop Manager and VAD should be removed.
That should make sure every trace of it is gone!

Thanks again for your assistance! Much obliged, and as promised, here's your !

Why go to all that bother when you can simply download something like MaxMem. That will allow you to remove VAD, Sample Media Picture, Videos etc etc !!!

Forget reloading OS ...................................

If you remove VAD, Options / About won't work.

That's only true if you use maxmem. If you manually remove the cod files from the java folder, the about screen still works.

I've never used Maxmem, yet when I remove the cod files, Options / About doesn't work for me.

I've never used maxmem (always use Application Loader) to remove any .cod files. When I removed VAD, the Help/About no longer works.

I don't know what you two are doing but the options -> about screen works for me and I've completely removed all cod files associated with VAD

It appears from in depth research that removing the VAD cod files during OS installation on the 4.5 OS models still disables the About screen.

Apparently this glitch has been remedied in OS 4.6 (8900 and 9000), and the About screen still works. I know on my last few Bold upgrades, still removing the VAD cods in the Java folder, the About screen still works.

I've never removed the VAD on my Storm, so I can't speak there.

Very interesting! I'm glad I didn't need to remove it prior to the 8900, then!

Thanks again for all the info guys! It's been very helpful!
