Default Removing Software

Please Login to Remove!

Forgive me, for I am a newbie. I have installed a couple of third-party application on my new 7100t via OTA downloading. I may or may not choose to keep them. However, at this point, I have no idea how to remove them. I thought the answer might lie in using the Application Loader, but it does not seem to recognize the programs.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You can also remove apps via the application loader on Desktop Manager. Plug your BlackBerry, open the application loader and it will list all the apps, firmware and languages installed on your device. Hit the tick boxes for the apps you want to uninstall (when you tick them you'll see 'Remove' listed next to them), then click next and the apps will be removed. Your device will then reboot itself.
This is a cleaner way of removing apps.

Default Removing 3rd party applications

You are correct, the 3rd party applications will not be listed on the desktop software if it was loaded/downloaded over the air. You must delete it on the blackberry itself, not through your pc... go to -tools, select -applications, and then locate the application in the list, click the trackwheel and select delete.

I downloaded a midlet from a website, in the form of a .jad and .jar, then I used the BB dev tools (as described somewhere on these forums) to create a .cod and used the java loader to put this (over USB) on my phone. The application doesn't show up in the applications list, either in tools:settings:applications or the application loader.

That makes it hard to delete! Any ideas other than wiping the phone?

Edit: I learned (from a Sun website) that you can also use javaloader to erase programs you've loaded with it.

in your case, the file will be listed in Modules, which can be accessed by clicking the trackwheel from inside the Applications options window.

In this same vein.... I have a few apps that I downloaded over the air, and in fact they do not show up in my App Loader when I sync to the PC.

Here's my problem: I want to install NEW software via the App Loader. I choose the alx file, and hit next, and my Blackberry then says that it will DELETE all unrecognized modules (ie. the ones that were installed OTA). I don't want to delete those OTA apps!!!!

How do I install new apps without the App Loader deleting the OTA-downloaded apps?

Thanks!

Found the solution by hacking around in my folders, copying files around....

I ended up copying ALL .cod and .alx files, along with any other program files (java files) for each application to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7520-v4.0.0.249_P1.4.0.40

from then on, all apps were recognized...

I guess these weren't all OTA apps, but weren't recognized all the same. The problem was, I kept all of my blackberry software files in a MyDocuments folder, instead of the loader folder.

I am also having issues with a .cod/.jar file that I manually loaded using Javaloader.

I am now trying to uninstall the application, which does not show up in 'Applications' or on the BB desktop software.

This is what I am attempting:

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.0.2\bin>javaloader -d1 erase Virca.cod
RIM Wireless Handheld Java Loader
Copyright 2001-2004 Research In Motion Limited
Connected
Erasing Virca Error: invalid handle
Disconnected

So all I can figure out is that "invalid handle" means that the softare is not under that name (even though that was the jar that I specified when loading it).

Is there a way that I can get a listing of all apps/files on the BB?

(and does anyone know an IRC client that works with the older 6750? I had problems with jmIRC as well)

Instead of this javaloader -d1 erase Virca.cod
I would use this:
javaloader -USB erase Virca.cod

KonTiki,
I do not have USB, I am using a serial port. I did try it, just to see if it would work and this is what I got:

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.0.2\bin>javaloader -USB era
se Virca.cod
RIM Wireless Handheld Java Loader
Copyright 2001-2004 Research In Motion Limited
Connecting to device...Error: unable to open port

Yes my assumption was that it was USB based , it will not work that way for the serial one. Sorry man, I tried.

Hmm... okay, I tried doing everything suggested and can't seem to find a way to remove Newsclip. I downloaded OTA and it's not showing up in Application on the BB.

Default Newsclip SW bug

I had the same problem and downloaded newsclip OTA.
It doesn't show up in the app loader and you cant get rid of it.
This is a nasty bug and not very good SW. Definately not worth the $300
they want after 7 days of the free trial.
I finally got rid of mine by loading the version that goes in via the desktop loader and then removing it via the desktop loader that cleaned it out. go to their website to get the version to load using your desktop loader.

$300?! Is that how much they want for it? Wow.. I was actually un-installing it cause I just didn't have time to read all those stories.

Yeah, I installed the desktop version and then it put two icons on my BB. I was able to un-install one of them with the Desktop Loader but it still left one icon. Now when I click on the icon, it gives me an error saying it can't find a file needed to run the program... ugh!

I emaild them but haven't heard back.
