I agree with Steve. I think its better have too much information than have nothing at all. BG corrected people right away and gave us the full low down on the 83XX series.

I know when it comes to leaking info sometimes he or the "leaker" doesnt stumble onto all the info right away. Sometimes it comes in waves.

Guess i'm not sure what "role" the 8800 has in the bb product lineup.

8800 (No Camera, GPS)
8820 (No Camera but WiFi and GPS)

Why would you get the 8800 over the 8820????

If you don't care about WiFi and want it now, the 8800 is a great choice.

I think it will be interesting to see the price points of the devices.

I think this is a smart move for RIM. Hit almost everymarket segment and get out there as much as possible so people might not have as good of a reason to buy another device (ie iphone.)

Right, so assuming they release this "bear" family of phones in May/June - the 8800 will become obsolete in 3 months (march to may)?? That doesn't make sense! Why didn't they just wait?

do you remeber the 7130? In canada it had a July release date and then the pearl just came out right after. They do this to hit more differenet target segments.

i will be waiting for the 83xx (Camera, WiFi, GPS). i can hold on to my 8700c until then. wifi sounds fun, camera is a nice little feature, and sure enough gps sounds amazing.

I really want the Camera and GPS with the smaller form factor and spaced keyboard. I don't much care for the Wifi - I mean honestly, browsing on the tiny screen is a pain in the butt. What else would you really need Wifi for? EDGE does fine for me for weather updates, jivetalk, googlemaps (rarely use, only when lost). Is there something I'm missing with the whole WIFI bandwagon?

Thinking I might sell my 8800 and buy a used 8700 to keep me organized until the bear family are released.

I have the same question about Wifi. What advantage does Wifi provide when surfing the Internet on the BB?

Depends on how you look at it because isn't there a rumor that a 9xxx series will be out before the end of the year? So your kinda in the same boat as us 8800 consumers. I think i'm gonna keep my 8800 and see what comes out there after the 8300 series. Hopefully the 9xxx will use a faster processor, then the 8300 people will be saying the same as us 8800 users right now.

People want wifi to be able to use the UMA service that T-Mobile has been testing that allows you to seamlessly switch, even while mid call, from using normal cellular minutes to wifi VOIP, which is unlimited.

Here's an interesting non-standard use for you. I have a old, ancient laptop that sits under my stereo system that has a WiFi card and music web management interface; it's purpose in life is to play streaming internet radio stations to the stereo receiver as well as local MP3s off hard disk -- it does this incredibly well. 1997 technology is still useful.

Well, there's also a minimalist WAP interface on it; I used my Nokia E60 over WiFi to sit around the house and change the music, never having to power up the normal laptop to change the MP3/station, etc. This is all on a local 192.168.* NAT subnet, your usual home router junk.

I look forward to WiFi on my next crackberry so I can change the radio station.

Ooooh, Ic. But again - how many times do I use skype? My balance is $9.58, 5 months after putting a $10 credit on my account!!! Sure this is different for others, but most of my calls are in the good 'ol US of A. Also, most of my convos are short - I mainly text/email/instant message with my BB. I hate being on the phone for long amounts of time.

NO, I don't think that RIM is on crack . I just think that they use these internal codes to differentiate between all the models.

Left a comment on 'The Boy Genius Report' that if he has broken the code(s), i.e., Baby Bear (8300), Mama Bear (8320), Papa Bear (83xx), does this mean that "TEDDY" Bear would be the 8830 ?

Advantages of TMo WiFi/UMA.

1. WiFi faster than Edge
2.UMA perfect for me because I only get 2 bars of signal at home...and nothing in my basement. So I'll be able to take/make calls much better at home and then switch to towers as I walk out my door. TMO service is NOT skype like for calls as once in internet land I believe it routes through TMo's GSM infrastructure.
