I recently moved to a BB 8900, from Bold. Having some problem with BB Maps. When ever i try to find my location it says searching for sattelite. I dont have that problem with Google Maps, i would love to use Google Maps but it doesnt have that much of detail as BB Maps Does.

Anyone can point out what the problem might be.

Running 8900 with .231 Os.

I'm not sure. But are you certain google maps is locking on sattelites and not just locating you based on the cell tower you are communicating with?

The initial Google maps location fix uses cell tower data and triangulation to find you with 1700 to 2500 meters. Once GPS locks on, the position is refined to within 10 meters or so.

BB Maps does not have a similar feature, so it has to wait until GPS locks on.

to get a proper GPS fix using google map it takes me upto a minute only. Initial triangulation takes few seconds and then the lock takes a little longer.

but on BB map when i go to find location > where i am, it just stays on connecting to whatever and just stays there. On my bold it use to take 20 seconds or say because it uses AGPS which gives you faster lock.

is there anyone else having the same problem??

I guess you've tried a hard reset? (Pull the battery for 30+ seconds. Do it with the blackberry power on.)

Using Google and its estimated location, the device "knows" where you are and therefore knows where to look for the satellites and can lock on quicker.

If you haven't used your BBMaps for a while and have moved a reasonable distance away from the lat known position, then the device has to first find the satellites and then locate you on the map.

GPS satellites are not in a geostationary orbit, so their location changes making it take a bit longer to locate, lock on and track. Once locked, you are good to go however.
