You need to download and install an IPD File Viewer. Two popular ones are MagicBerry and ABC Amber BlackBerry Converter.

You need ABC amber converter to view an .ipd backup file.
.ipd files aren't really supposed to be viewed. you backup, and then restore that file when needed.
