Default How do I get TMo MyFaves on my unlocked BB from another carrier?

Please Login to Remove!

Many of you have asked me how to do this. If you are a TMobile MyFaves subscriber but have a device from another carrier (AT&T for example) unlocked and using it on TMobile you may not have the TMobile MyFaves application on your devcie. The MyFaves numbers will still work but the app isn't there because it's only loaded to TMobile vendor coded (branded) devices. This post will show you how to add the myfaves applications.

Here are the steps:

1. Download and install Desktop Manager. I recommend using 4.2 SP2 as it is a very stable release of the DM.

2. Install the Device Software for your handheld. Look on your handheld under Options >About for your OS version. Then download and install from here

3. Edit the Blackberry.alx file. If you've edited for themes before then this will be a snap. On the PC navigate to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\loader files\8100-v4.2.1.108_P2.3.0.85 (your particular model number and OS version may be different.) You should see a file called "Blackberry.alx." Open it with a text editor and scroll down to the following:

Code:
 <!-- T-Mobile filesets -->
                <fileset Colour="True" series="8100" Java="1.0" _vendorID="100">
                        <files>
                                net_rim_theme_100_240x260_b.cod
                                net_rim_bb_media_100_five_icon_library.cod
                                net_rim_tmo_five.cod
                        </files>

Remove the vendor coding (shown here in bold) so that the lines look like this:

Code:
<!-- T-Mobile filesets -->
                <fileset Colour="True" series="8100" Java="1.0">
                        <files>
                                net_rim_theme_100_240x260_b.cod
                                net_rim_bb_media_100_five_icon_library.cod
                                net_rim_tmo_five.cod
                        </files>

Save the file.

4. Then browse back to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and make sure the file called "vendor.xml" is deleted.

5. Plug in the BB, and open Desktop Manager.

6. Click on Application Loader. You may or may not see that "core applications" need to be updated. Check or uncheck anything in the list that you want or don't want.

7. Click on Next/Finish to finish out the loading process. Just before the loading takes place you should see the modules that are going to be added or removed. Review them for accuracy and then proceed.

The two .cod's that will be added will be:

net_rim_bb_media_100_five_icon_library.cod
net_rim_tmo_five.cod

Once these are installed and you have the proper provisioning for MyFaves from TMobile you should have the myfaves app on your unlocked device.

Good luck!

Your profile indicates that your carrier is AT&T which means you will not get MyFaves to work on your device.

I downloaded the tmobile handheald software,then I installed it in my computer, I looked for the Blackberry.alx file and I opened with a text editor and then I removed the Vendor ID, then I saved it.
Went back to the files and the file called VENDOR.XLM is still showing.

What am I doing wrong??????

Also all my files are showing with the text editor icon I used, is this normal????

Is your carrier AT&T or TMobile? TMobile MyFaves only works on a TMobile account.

It makes no difference if the handheld software is from TMobile or any other carrier. If you edit the blackberrry.alx (even on the AT&T version) you'll get the MyFaves software installed. However, if you don't have a TMobile sim card (account) then you will NEVER get MyFaves.

Default Unlocked T-Mobile BB Curve 8320

Thanks for the elaborate instructions John ! I tried but I couldn't really get it working tho..

I really hope someone could help me with this...

I have an unlocked T-Mobile Curve 8320. My provider is T-Mobile and I am subscribed to myFaves. So normally the myFaves circles should show up after subscription right ? Well the circles wouldn't show up on my screen.

I'm not even sure if I had to follow the steps above, since I own a (unlocked) T-Mobile device - after all the myFaves app should load on a TMO device when you have myFaves subscription.

Since it did not, I figured I had to edit the Blackberry.alx file and save it as mentioned above. I followed all the steps. My BB OS is 4.2.2.180, so when I open the application loader it won't load up anything because my phone's OS is up to date. So nothing changes on my phone.
I can see - however - the 2 cod lines in my BB, when I go to Options > Advanced Options > Applications > Blackberry 4.2 Core Applications.

I'm clueless here :|

What should I do to (re)active/enable the myFaves app on my unlocked T-Mobile Blackberry Curve 8320?

I'm a long time TMO subscriber but just finally signed up for a MyFaves Family Plan. I knew if it were possible to put MyFaves on my AT&T 8310, I'd find the answer here. Since I had previously used the Handy-Dandy John Clark Memory Optimization Process, all I needed to do was move the three MyFaves files from my "Removed Modules" directory back to the Java directory. Updated via DM and Voila! Works like a charm.

Once again, thanks to John Clark and the other mods for making life with our Blackberries so much easier.

i have seen that you have helped and developed guides for several people to help install tmobile software on a at&t phone. i installed the tmobile device software with 4.2 service pack 2 desktop manager in my laptop. my unlocked at&t pearl already has a 4.5.99 device software installed on it. when i connect my device to the desktop manager, it does not downgrade my device software to a tmobile software. i have tried everything, deleted vendor.xml and also deleted vendor ID from the blackberry.alx. still no luck. could you please help. what am i doing wrong. i just want the whole tmobile software on my att pearl. thanx in advance.
