i don't think u can put full mp3 files off your "puter". you can cut files down to short clips.
next u have to upload them to somewhere and go to the link on your blackberry

He has yet to get back to me. Student in NY who is not keeping his site up to date. But again, thanks. I usually have a motive to my madness; I put in a different forum for people who don't goto each room. I don't double post in each room, and thought that the ringtone one was where it may belong.

Thanks again tho

Well, at least you now know how to put the BB in the holster/case.

There are TONS and TONS of threads on how to build the ringtones (which you already have) and places to post them...

Why don't you just use MiniRingtone. It helps you cut clips out of the MP3 songs and then it automatically puts in on the 'net and then even emails you a link to download it.

Not bad for someone not 'puter savvy. Only 20 bux.

Here's the easiest way I know....

1. Upload the mp3 file here: http://www.coolservice.dk/en/compatibilities.php
2. Go the link provided using your Blackberry's Internet Browser.
3. Enter the code you were given when you uploaded the file.
4. Download the mp3.

It doesn't get any easier than that.

I also recommend audacity to shorten your MP3s. It works great. A bit difficult to install though if you don't have the right instructions.

I found this tip for using iTunes to produce ringtone-length MP3s:

Right click your song and click Get Info \ Options and adjust the song's
Start and End times to clip it as you like. The format for the time is
MM:SS.ms, so you can be very precise.

Now you use iTunes' built-in conversion tool. Right-click the song and
choose "Convert To AAC." The file will be copied and a duplicate track will
appear in iTunes... clipped to the length you set on the original song!

Send this to your phone using a web-based uploader or by USB or however you typically transfer ringtones. Don't forget to turn off Start and End times on the original song when you're done!

If your phone doesn't play AAC files, just adjust the iTunes Preferences \
Advanced \ Importing screen to MP3. Whatever you choose on this screen will
appear when you right-click a song and choose "Convert To..."

I've found this very easy to use, and then I upload through coolservice.dk.

Thanks for the tip. I'm sure it will be useful to the people that use iTunes and perhaps even to people who don't.

YOur browser disappeared??? Well aside from wanting to know how to do the ringtones with a usb, I certainly would take care of finding it. LOL but seriously.

There are pros on here who can help you, and I don't know how much you know, but try going to options - setting - homepage - click organize applications, then is should show all of your icons. Even your hidden ones in a light color. Goto the browser, hit alt while pressing the wheel, then select 'show icon'

I believe this problem may have showed up with someone else and someone suggested taking the battery out and restarting the BB. I'm not sure what that did exactly but I believe the person found their browser again.

Here is KennyC's instructional thread bon how to add ringtones to you BB without a data plan.

Default Wav files aren't making sound on 8700g

I downloaded some wav files that work on the PC and are supposedly for the 8700. I downloaded them to my 8700 except they do not make a sound when I play them.

Is this a common issue - what would cause this?

Thanks

I wasn't aware that the 8700 could play wav files.

Later versions of the 8700 do. At least the 8700/4.1.0.286 that I loaded does.

Hope this helps.

If that's the case, (a) where can I find the .286 version (I have .284/Zen right now) and (b) will it play wav files attached to emails (I get emails of my voicemails that way)? Thanks.

At this point I do not believe any BlackBerry can play wav files that are sent as attachments.

Using the "search" function, I found this amazing thread that has tons of information on where to download the different handheld OS version from. Including where to the .286 from (Hong Kong). Telstra's is even newer...
