Default When will T-Mobile have a 3g network?

Please Login to Remove!

I apologize for so many posts from me on here lately. I tried a google search and a BBforum search, the best articles I could find were very old. One from 2006 saying within 2 years and one articles anywhere laying out when T-Mobile will have a 3g network? Will they release a new Blackberry with 3g compatibility (if I'm reading this right, the Javelin isn't 3g compatible) when they roll out their 3g network? Thanks for any info.

They have 3g in a few places now. When they have it most places they'll have more 3g phones for sure. Personally I don't care at this point. I did what I could to research the advantages of ATT's 3g network using the Bold, Verizon's Storm, vs the 8900 and Tmob and figured Tmob was at least as fast for me, and more reliable. Others will feel differently for sure. Depends on where you are.

T-Mobile has refused to give any schedule for AWS rollout. They announced some cities a while back that were going to be "next", but no time frame was given, other then "starting this summer..." kind of thing. My frustration with this is one reason I jumped to AT&T. When T-Mo rolled out AWS in NYC the coverage didn't extend out to my area of northern New Jersey. So I said fuggedaboudit and went to the Death Starxxx8482;. Happy as a clam ever since!

It would be better to check the coverage by yourself..

T-Mobile Personal Coverage Check

Once the page comes, click on the tab "Data Coverage" and enter your zip code to find out the exact details.

OK...I am a bit confused. I plan on jumping from Verizon & my Centro to TMO and the 8900. I'm in L.A. which shows it has 3G coverage. Will I have access to 3G with the 8900?

No because the 8900 is not a 3G phone.

OK Thanks. Not a deal breaker.

Just curious....is the phone not capable of 3G (due to its OS)? Is this an option that TMO has disabled (possibly until a later date)?

The 8900 does not have a 3G radio. That is the design. Not T-Mobile or anyone else.

The Bold 9000 has 3G in the US on AT&T and the Storm on Verizon. Those are the only U.S. 3G BlackBerrys to date

T-Mobile has 3G in a few select markets. But they have no timetable for 3G rollout or at least a schedule that is available. I'm waiting for RIM to make a 3G BlackBerry. Hopefully it will be announced at WES for a release in the holiday season. Either way, I'm getting a 4.6 BlackBerry with the exception of the Pearl Flip to mitigate the wait for a 3G BlackBerry for T-Mobile.

Well, if you're counting all the CDMA devices along with the storm, then the 7250, 8703e, 8830, 8130, and 8330 are all also 3G.

No, they weren't 3g. I think only the Storm runs on their version of 3g. It's not trademarked as 3G ( they call it 1v or whatever). I download web pages on EDGE faster the I can on their Storm (when I tried it) most of the time and they don't have WiFi, which is definitely faster than anybodys 3g by a lot.

3G not all it's cracked up to be. Within last month have used Apple Iphone and BB Storm. Both 3G. I phone gives you about 3 hours of battery life while surfing. AND it's not that fast. Storm is a piece of junk. Very hard to type on, poorly made and you notice no speed increase from 3G. Now have BB 8900. VERY VERY good!. This is the replacement for me for my old BB 7000g. It's wireless is seamless and speedy and it's 2G Edge is just as fast, if not faster than the Storm's and Apple's 3G. And, it doesn't drain the battery like 3G. The 8900 is tops!

I have to agree I have a Storm on T-Mobile and one on Verizon. My T-Mobile one with EDGE out performs Verizon the majority of the time.

I also hate how Verizon does the 3G Storm commercials. They should say "It is the largest (our version of) 3G in North America."

Voice and data together? NO

We have 3g here in Orlando, too bad I'm on Tmobile and that means no blackberry that can use it, as stated above. :( What the **** were they thinking releasing the 8900 without 3g?

Not sure what the point of the 8900 is, it's no different then the previous curve besides a better camera...

i have a great idea: why don't these north american carriers use the 2100 MHz frequency for UMTS and stop this 'unique' 3G spectrum bs....

I have had a completely opposite experience with 3g than many of the posters in this thread. On lunch I played with a co-workers Bold a few days and and pages were pulling up so fast it blew my mind. I could actually stream Youtube without waiting on any buffering. On my T-Mobile 8310 I can't watch youtube at all, regardless of how long I let it buffer. It will play about a second, then buffer for 30 seconds, then play another second, then buffer, etc. It'd take me hours to watch a full video. I'm guessing it will be similar on the Javelin because it will connect through the same data network but hopefully I'm wrong and it's much faster.

I like the Javelin due to the extra onboard memory and the faster processor. Definitely makes a difference.

The real question to ask is when will T-Mo bring out a phone that will work on its 3G network?
