Default Tethering the 8330 with Verizon

Please Login to Remove!

Hello. I see there is a $15 / month tether plan for VZW, but does anyone know if there is a way to bypass this $15 charge to tether? And if so, can someone please point to directions?

Thanks.

Nope. No way around it. You've got to pay for tethering with Verizon.

I use this feature with my TomTom for traffic. The problem is that once the phone goes into "Modem Enabled" mode I lose access to the internet. I get a message that the radio is off. I dont know how to shut off the modem and relaunch the radio. The only way I'm able to get back full service is to remove the battery for a few seconds.
Any thoughts on an easier method?

I use my 8330 for the same thing. The Verizon 8330 can't do tethered data and device data at the same time. I don't know whether this is inherent, or a side effect of how Verizon distinguishes between device data and tethered data.

IMHO, user-initiated device data (i.e. opening the browser) should override the tethered data, but it doesn't. I get around this by temporarily turning off Bluetooth under "Manage Connections". This kills the connection to the TomTom and then allows device data. Every so often though, when I try to re-connect Bluetooth after doing this, the phone, the TomTom, or both will reboot.
