Default Problem solved: device rattles when a loud ringtone is used

Please Login to Remove!

Well, it isn't totally solved, but it has been reduced significantly.

Problem: When utilizing a loud ringtone, even on medium volume level, the device would rattle, and it sounded terrible.

Solution: I decided to perform some open BB surgery to investigate the problem, and noticed that there is a little piece of foam behind the speaker, that mates to another piece of foam on the unit. I decided that this was part of the problem, so I cut up a business card to the size of the square, folded up so that it was about 1.5mm thick, and placed it on the BB's foam piece, I then replaced the back, and screwed the T6 screws in quite tight. I played a tune, and it seemed better, but not good enough for me. I then noticed that the battery has about a 1.55mm gap between it and the battery cover at the top of the battery. I deduced that it was possible for the battery to be rattling too, so the same process with the battery as I did with the phone. I played the tones again, and it was much better. There is still a little bit of rattle, but not so much that the tones sound very bad.

Hopefully this will help anyone with a similar issue.

RUn your ringtones thru a high pass filter. This will solve alot of distortion and "rattle".

Will this work for vibrate too?? My BB vibrates so loud the clip on my case turns a complete 360. Last night it vibrated itself right off my bed and hit the wall on its way to the floor.

Default Battery cover causes issues too!

When I use the speaker phone, the battery cover rattles and makes the quality not so good!

I did the same thing with my battery cover with some light foam ontop of the battery before I attached the battery door and my 8700g feels more sturdy and the ringtones sound much better.
