The 9700 is a Curve, despite what they're calling it. It should have been called the Curve 3. It's kind of part of RIM's silly marketing, as far as I'm concerned.

Well if RIM calls it a Bold2 it's a bold 2.

I can't call my Hyundai Genesis an Aston Martin.

I guess it comes down to what is the most important criteria for the name, clearly RIM decided that features were the deciding factor, whereas most of us would tend to say form factor.

If we never see an official update to the 8900 then it will seem to indicate that they see the curve purely as a budget brand.

RIM builds what the carriers want to sell.

Indeed they do, but neither the features nor the branding will be down to the carriers entirely, although it would be very close to that if its a carrier exclusive like the storm.

No, but if Hyundai slapped an Aston steering wheel in a Genesis and called it a luxury sedan you would have an approximation of just how innovative releasing a "3G Curve" would be at this point.

I'm confused. There is a 3G Curve, the 8530.

As well as the 8330. They are both 3G curves. However, they are CDMA 3G which is different than GSM 3G. Mainly the difference is (other than frequencies) you can't use voice and data simultaneously.

OK, so what are the differences between CDMA and other networks, pros and cons...?
