Default Problem Connecting 8830 from Different Carrier

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Folks,

I have been searching far and wide for help on this issue, but can't seem to find a solution.

Here is the situation:

We currently have our own BES inhouse. The Blackberries in our office all run off our corproate account with Sprint / Nextel. We have both 8830 and 7520. I have no problem doing Enterprise activation w/ these units.

Here is the fun part. An executive of our company uses an 8830, but is on T-Mobile's network. I have attempted to do the enterprise acivation, but it does not activate.

The 8830 on the T-Mobile network does have the data package that allows for BES connectivity. I have surfed the internet w/ his 8830 to verify there is indeed data package on the unit.

I wanted to know is there any reasons why I can't connect an 8830 from a differnet carrier to my BES? From what I understand, teh BES is not carrier dependent.

Any suggestions or tips would greatly be appreciated.

Something simple, but has he been added to the BES? Also, have you tried setting his account up on a Sprint/Nextel device? It could be that the email from RIM is being blocked from reaching his account.

Alan,

Thanks for the very quick reply. We only have a handful of people on the BES, so please forgive me if I sound like an idiot :D

On the BES, I did add his user domain account to the server. Once I did that, I set an activation password and hit apply.

I then go to his 8830, go to enterprise activation. I enter his email address for the company, as it appears in the BES and the password. I hit activate.

I goes its enterprise activatio thing, and I get somethign like activation failed, can't contact server.

I am doing it again to get the exact message, but it will take a few min for it to fail.

Ok.. finally got the error message, and this is what it says on the 8830:

"The server is not responding. Please contact your system administrator"

I know the server works, because I activated my 8830 recently too.

Is there anyway I can check to see if the Tmobile blackberry can actually communicate w/ our BES?

Is the BES carrier neutral? Or do I have to contact sprint / nextel to allow tmobile to play?

BES is carrier independent.

Try sending a PIN message to the 8830. If the 8830 cannot receive the PIN message then you have a provisioning issue.

If the PIN works, then there could be a problem getting the activation emails to the user's inbox.

Check the inbox to see if there are any emails from the RIM network.

Default bes activation

One word, rules. The biggest issue I run into with EA on BES are rules that end users setup on their own....things tend to get screwy during activation, best to disable them temporaily.

This is so true. We had 1 user that created a rule that file all message sent directly to him into a folder. Because of the rule EA never got the ETP message.

Yeah, those pesky users and their rules. This job would be great if it wasn't for the [language ninja'd by a go-bot]-ing users.

Although unlikely, it could also be your spam filter is just happening to catch that ETP activation message for that particular user. It's happened to me. Be sure to put blackberry.net in the whitelist.

Just for clarification, the 8830 is a CDMA device(and I see you said sprint , so im well aware)! what im confused is how the Tmobile is related to this issue or related/tied to it? does he have a foreign Tmobile sim card in his 8830 ? Try removing the sim and not having it in there and do the activation. Also make sure that his account is not already added in the BES and tied to an old or exsisting Blackberry. The only way to do this is to just delete his account and just add it again, and then reactivate using the activation password and his email

Hope this is what you were looking for
