Telstra has made the wireless communications solution Blackberry available over its CDMA network, extending the service beyond its relatively limited GSM network.

Telstra head of small business and CDMA Jenny Roche, said the telco giant's CDMA network has "twice the geographic coverage of any GSM network in Australia and covers more than 98 percent of the population, or more than 1.6 million square kilometres across both rural and metropolitan areas". BlackBerry was introduced in Australia on Telstra's GSM mobile network in 2002.

"Making BlackBerry available on our CDMA network will enable many thousands more Australians, wherever they are based, to keep business moving, while they're moving," Roche said.

The model being launched for the CDMA network, BlackBerry 7250, developed by Research In Motion (RIM), is a handheld device that can be used as a phone, to send and receive e-mails and SMS and access appointment calendar, corporate data and the Internet.

"My Number 0428707111"

Be aware these devices come preloaded with a dummy mobile number in order for the handset to be activated on CDMA network.
You may notice in the Phone application "My Number 0428 707 111" and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it.
If it annoys you;
Phone=>Options=>General Options=>(change "show My Number" to "No")=>Save

Hopefully R.I.M. will think about adding a feature to change that info in a future Handheld software update.

Also waiting for the software update to allow it to be used as an EVDO modem =)
