Default How to transfer contacts from old phone

Please Login to Remove!

Hello experts,

I am brand new to BB Pearl 8100. I just got it couple of days and this is my first smart phone. I am struggling to transfer my contacts from old phone via bluetooth connection and have been unsuccessful.

My old phones are Motorola V551 and Sony Ericsson T-637. Here is what I did:

On V551:
- Go to Settings -> Connection -> Bluetooth Link -> Setup
- Set power to ON
- Click on "Find Me", it comes back saying "Discoverable: 60 seconds"

On BB:
- I go to "Set Up Bluetooth"
- Go through the device search/pairing options
- Enter PIN on both phones and get confirmation that it is now paired with V551

On V551:
- Go to Settings -> Connection -> Bluetooth Link -> Device History
- BlackBerry 8100 is listed here as one of the device.
- Go to Address Book
- Select Send from phone book menu
- BB 8100 isn't listed here, so click on "Look for Devices"
- It goes through the device search and comes back saying 0 devices found.

That's it. I am stuck here. I tried sending contacts from Ericsson T-637 but it get stuck at the same point there as well. I know one easy way is to copy contacts from old phone to SIM card and then transfer but that way I loose phone number type (home, office, mobile) information. So hoping it will work via bluetooth.

Any help/comment/pointer will be much appreciated. Or if you have an alternative method of transferring contacts, pl. let me know.

Thanks

Yes, I am in States. You probably didn't notice in my profile shown above, I have mentioned I am with T-Mobile. My old phones (V551 and T-637) are from AT&T.

Default moving contacts

I too had issues moving contacts. In the end, the only thing that worked, was downloading them into a Microsoft Outlook file and uploading them into BB using the software that comes with the phone. Once it's in Outlook, it's simple...Good luck

on the old phone go to contacts > copy all to SIM
put the SIM in the blackberry, go to address book > menu > sim phone book > menu > copy all to address book

The Blackberry doesn't support bluetooth transfer of contacts. Sith's method is one way. Also, if you can sync the other phone to Outlook you can sync the BB with Outlook.

Ah ha! Thanks for your response John. That's what I was wondering. OK, I will try to go the outlook route. The problem with method Sith suggested is SIM card can only contain name and number not the type of number (home, office, cell). In my old phone I have multiple phone numbers for each contact and have marked each one of those phone number with appropriate type (home, office, cell). When it comes to dialing somebody I just look at the name and number type. I can never remember if a give number was home or office or cell number

But looks like there is no other way around. I will try to sync up with outlook.

I asked a Verizon rep/sales person in a VZ store about transfering contacts from a Razor to the Pearl and they said no problem, they would do it for me. When I ordered from VZ online the rep/sales guy said not possible. Hmmm, is the Outlook to BB the only way or do you suppose the VZ store techs can cable transfer?
