I had a handful of 3rd party apps (e.g. BBToday, Berry 411 Search, etc.) installed on my old Blackberry 7290, but the unit died and was replaced with a new 7290. When I try to use the Application Loader to install these apps on this new unit, it gives me 2 options:
1. Leave the applications on the device unchanged (Recommended)
Note: If I choose this option, I can only press the [Cancel] button at the bottom of the screen because the [Back] and [Next] buttons are greyed out.
2. Replace the device's applications with the older version provided by the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
Note: If I choose this option, I cannot simply add the new 3rd party apps I want to install -- I'm also forced to either Downgrade or Remove the following:- BlackBerry 4.0.2 Systest Software
- BlackBerry Attachment Service
- BrickBreaker
- WTLS Security Package
- SSL/TLS Security Package
- JavaScript Package
- Help
- MemoPad
- Password Keeper
- Phone
- TTY Support
- Tasks
Why can't I keep the newer device apps and load the 3rd party apps?
Both of my BlackBerries were issued to me from my employer's IT department. I don't know of any policy that prevents me from loading 3rd party apps -- they'd seen the apps on my older BlackBerry and never cared.
