I still have my 8700r and I will never get rid of it. The thing has been dropped way too many times to count, and barely a scratch on it.

My all-time favorite Blackberry is the 7520. I do not like this trend toward making phones smaller and smaller - particularly those with QWERTY keyboards. I find the Pearl to be uncomfortably small and although I was fond of my 8830, it was skinny and "slick" and I had a hard time holding on to it. The 8703e is a great compromise for me.

Flawlessly?? Seems every week I find a new function that has just stopped working on my 8703e. See my thread for just two of the most recent problems.

Guess we'll see, but they have done quite well for us and give us coverage where no other carriers have service, which is our main operation and where 75% of the calls are made. It is nice having service for a change.

Cellular One was a company that AT&T Wireless bought years ago. Some of the areas were actually franchised from the parent company. For example, when I worked for BellSouth Mobility in the 1990s, BellSouth had ownership in several Cellular One Franchise areas outside of the Southeast Region. Of course, AT&T wireless was purchased by Cingular and was absorbed. Later SBC purchased AT&T and couldn't resist taking back the AT&T name because of marketing value. My guess is that the Cellular One Franchises remained in areas where they were independent of the big boys. And of course are probably getting gobbled up gradually by the larger companies.

I have spent way too much money trying to get a better phone, honestly nothing beats my 8700. I went to the Pearl and 8800, hated the trackball, scroll wheel 'till I die! I went to the Iphone, back to the 7290 for some nostalgia and now back to a 8700, all in a span of 13 months. It's a solid phone that does everything it's supposed to right, I love the keyboard best of all BB's. Now if I could figure out how to get that darn Vodafone Today theme installed...

I'm a chinese bb user with a 8700. My first bb is 7730, I loved it very much because its biggest 3.2 inch screen, but it was stolen when I was sleeping in domi.
My present BB is 8700g, and I think its pretty rock solid device too. I am now using it to navigator the blackberryforums. I also use it chat with my friends, compose and receive email, read rss news and other apps.
I'm loving it, hehe.

The 8700 series are built like tanks, especially when compared to the first 8100s. It is like a Timex..Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. People also need to keep in mind that this series is what 2 and a half years old?

First blackberry I owned is an 8700c. I was at the store the other day and tried a Curve and Pearl, looked at them, held them side by side with my 8700, put them back and kept using my 8700!

I had a 7290 forever then switched to Verizon and got a 7250. Just recently picked up a 8703e and love it. Lighter, keyboard not as hard to get used to, and the jog wheel... can't beat the jog wheel. The Curve is nice, but more of a toy with the camera and media functions. The Pearl is just as well. The 88xx series is nice, but just doesn't feel right. The 87xx series just does it for me. I would not hesitate to go back to my 7250 for any reason, but the 8703 just doesn't give me any reason to unless I had to.

I like my 8703e but it is kinda limited. Ill be upgrading to the curve in a minute. 8700 is solid but its at the end of its lifetime.

To me, a Blackberry is at the end of its lifetime when it is dead and cannot be brought back to life. This explains the multitude of 72xx owners and users out there.

I disagree with the 8703e's "end of its lifetime".
Compared with the Curve, my Sprint 8703e (which was free for me) has EvDO (Curve is EDGE), GPS (although semi-crippled), and same general color screen.
So the Curve has a camera and microSD slot? This is a business device, not a toy.
And both run OS4.2...

I LOVE my 8700, however my 8310 is on the way as I need a camera and GPS is icing on the cake. However I love the 8700 form factor. If the 8700 had a camera and memory card support, I think I would definitely keep for a long, long time.

Fifty or so out of our fleet of 200 are still 87's... 8703's mostly. I had one up until recently when I traded it in for the 8830... I work for the state so the 87 series works for some people over here... it's definately a workhorse as far as berry's go...and they're not "old fashioned" pssst.. you want old-fashioned? How bout the 850's and 950's.. you guys remember them? Before color screens... lol
