It's possible you will never get a fried sim card. It was mostly 8320's that the the issue. You're probably going to be fine.

Do you think I'm safe trying this then on my 8120 (T-Mobile)? I've been itching to try it out but didn't want to fry my SIM so I've heeded all the warnings!

Most of the issues were on 8320's. However, that being said there isn't much difference between the 8320 and the 8120 as far as the network is concerned. I would probably wait. If you can get a sim card replaced easily then go for it.

No such thing as "flawless without any issue." First, they're beta and second they're RIM OS's. They're never flawless.

OK, got this working on my TMobile 8120. No fried SIM yet! Two things- first, I have Docs to Go but no Sheet to Go. Word and Powerpoint show up but no Excel. Has anyone else seen this?
Second, I thought we could change firewall settings in 4.5, but I have two apps (Windows Live Search and Yahoo oneSearch- both of which use voice commands) that keep telling me something like "this application has attempted to open a location inside and outside the firewall that is not allowed by your IT policy". I'm on BIS and know of no IT policy. My firewall says its enabled with a little lock next to it (locked) and I can't change these settings.
Any thoughts?

I don't have Excel either. I think it's normal.

You need to open Docs To Go and click on Register. Then you can download the full version of Docs To Go and you'll get Sheet To Go.

@galations51: If your firewall has a lock next to it then you have an IT policy restricting your device. See the thread below for removal. Use the first method since you have OS 4.5.

Thanks so much, John. I now have Excel, and will remove the IT policy when I get home tonight!

I was thinking of updating my 8120 tonight. How's it going after having it a day?

I like it a lot. Docs to Go is great, HTML email is fantastic. It seems a little slow, but I'm going to delete my third party apps and re-add them one by one to see if that's the issue. Removing IT policy after I post!

took the plunge, updated with the above SW, i got mine from rogers BB download, i thought it would be different, but it turned out to be exactly same platform and everything else.

couple issue i have encountered so far:

1. UMA icon is gone, it doesnt show the UMA icon anywhere on the phone, although next to tmobile it does show my wifi connection name. still able to connect to wifi cuz i tested with operamini which is set to wifi only and it connects just fine, and as far as everything else, speed is much faster than EDGE.

2. through BIS when delete email on handheld only, it will get stuck with unread msg count, able to live with that, either delete both places or just leave it on BB.

3. html email does show up very nicely, but image doesnt load up, some image get "lucky" and it will load up, but 99% of the image doesnt load, even after i select the option to show all images.

so far these are my finding, only played around for couple of hours so far. email viewing is much more pleasant with 4.5 on BIS 2.5, minor issues does bug me though. i will live it for now hopefully something else will become available soon.

1. No UMA is a known issue with this release. There is a big red warning in the first post about it.
2. Resend your service books and see what happens.
3. For images you have to hit the menu key and select "get images."

thanks for reply. UMA icon is not a huge concern for me, wifi still connects and works just fine.

did the service book numerous of times already but i will give it a shot again.

did actually do the "get images", but either it takes a long time to load or its just not working, i will test it more throughout the day tomorrow and keep you BB addicts posted.

What do you mean by "removing IT policy"?

Download, installed, no problem until....

I have a problem connecting to my @Home service. I can connect to my wifi, but now I'm getting a W006.8 error when UMA tries to access Tmobile. Under Wifi Diagnostics I can see the status go from "Establishing UMA connection..." then to "T-mobile Network error" and my Connection icon has a red X in it.

Any thoughts? I sent service books and received them. I also did a battery pull. No joy.

I'm with Tmo in California.

Did you read the big red notes at the bottom of the first post? UMA doesn't work on most TMo devices with this release.

Ya....I did....but....I read other places where folks got their wifi to work. "Wifi" meaning just that...only their wifi and not the UMA (as I started noticing now). This is one of those instances where one reads into something what they want it to mean....not what it actually means.

So, how do I downgrade?
