BlackBerry Maps - Now Available for 4.1 Devices
Please Login to Remove!
Go to the following link from your handheld or PC
www.blackberry.com/maps
If the above link does not work over the air or through AXLoader, please run through it, accept all of the terms and conditions, etc., and then click on the link below:
www.knology.net/~acidmax/blackberry/maps.jad
I'm not sure if there is a different one for the 8700 and 7100 device forms, but it doesn't appear that there is (but maybe so). Please just be sure to go through and accept all of the terms/conditions and disclaimers and whatever else RIM has carefully worded. This is important to them, obviously.
And this appears to be the portal page that may or may not be launched (this week?):
maps.blackberry.com

I installed OTA with no problem on the 7250. Its an interesting program, I'm not sure yet whether I like it or Google Maps better.

How does it measure up to telenav?
Also, does anyone know if it has voice prompts?

It does not have voice prompts. With the GPS it does follow you around the city though.

Well OTA says my 8700c isnt supported, and if I do it via the PC it stops at 12% loaded with no explanation. Is this another Cingular won't do it deal. Needless to say, I am frustrated. Wanted to compare it for my GPS analysis. Any other ideas on how to get it. I don't see an .alx / .cod source.
Could it be that it sees the Bharti OS on my 8700 and won't accept it? Ouch if that is so?

So it will be a mystery for me then. Don't know why I can't DL it. Anyone on Cingular with Bharti able to DL?

Ok I cleared my cache and got it. Maybe I did something else too but not sure. Desparate housemaps call it. They have some advanatges over Telenav. Use the SPACE bar to change views. Also note that help integration on the web is easy and fast. Doesn't have voice prompts. Zooming is very nicley implemented with the scalable maps. Paning is a breeze. Integration with address book and a favorites list too. Who remembers the George Thorogood song "You Talk Too Much". Maybe this is the answer.

I got it from the original link about Noon today. My 7290 ATTW/Cingular and my wife's TMO 8700g.
Both work great!
Thanks!
Steve

Yes...but I like the voice prompts and I also like the integrated biz lookup feature and gas finder....I see that it does not work with berry411..It also does not recognize addresses in email like GMAIL does (very cool feature). Also, I have noticed that the map coverage is not as good as telenav (which is strange)..Maybe it's just it's lack of ability to recognize actual house numbers, but nevertheless, it is still a downgrade compared to telenav..of course beggars can't be choosers, certainly not for free...

I agree Telenav has those advantages. See my GPS page re source of data. That is why it differs. Source is TeleAtlas - same as Wayfinder vs use of Navteq by Google and Telenav.
Explain the Gmail integration better please. Is that with the full suite?

ahh, that explains it. Navteq is hands down the best in the business.
as for the gmail, when one receives an email with an address in it, gmail has a link to that address in GOOGLE MAPS, ups tracking number in an email? Gmail has a direct link to that tracking number on the UPS site. Gmail is super smart that way....
