Please activate a BlackBerry data plan. That is the correct way to get the Internet on the device. Updating the operating system version is recommended, but it will not activate the Internet for you.

As I said, upgrading to 4.3 will not activate the Internet.

I got your PM, let's keep this in this thread so others can learn.
As dc/dc stated, you will need a BlackBerry Data plan. Does Metro PCS offer BlackBerry data plans? Do they sell the 8703? If not, they most likely won't have the service book for the BB Browser.

Im on their BB plan
Im on their BB plan but I do not have a BB from Metro pcs. it was originally with sprint. Ive been told i need to upgrade the OS to 4.3 but not sure how to do that and im not sure what else i'll have to do. i know a place that'll do it for me for $50 but id like to figure out how to do it. ive also been told ill have to erase the IT policy. i just dont want to try to do it before i know exactly everything i need to do. i dont wanna take a chance on ruining my BB. i guess ill have to pay the $50 to have it done if i cant figure it out on here. any help is greatly appreciated

If you have an IT Policy on the device, that changes things. The policy could be blocking the Browser. Are you sure you have a policy?

Options > Security Options > General Settings. What does it show under Services at the bottom?

That indicate that there is NOT an IT policy on the device.
Can you send PIN messages, use BlackBerry Messenger?

PM me your PIN number and I will send you a PIN message. Report back here letting me know if you recieved the PIN message.
You can find your PIN number by going to Options > Status.

I sent the PIN message you to and myself, I received the message but also got an error stating the Service Blocked. I would assume that means you did not receive it and also that you do NOT have a BlackBerry data plan.

But it is not associated with your BB. data connection refused means no BlackBerry Service on the account.

Call them back and tell them you are unable to do PIN to PIN messaging. They need to fix that. It's possible have the data plan, but something else get hosed up and block the PIN to PIN, which will also affect your browser functionality.
I run across this with Sprint occassionally.
