Best OS version for speed and battery life (9330)

Wondering what the best version of OS is for a Curve 9330. I am currently on 6.0 Bundle 1659 (v.6.0.0.415, Platform 4.4.0.314)
I find it generally a pretty slow experience .. and battery life not great....
I see I have an option to the latest OS upgrade but have held off... Would
that improve or decrease performance? If so, is there a "best" OS for the 9330 for speed and battery life?
Thanks! Only been in BB world for half-a-year or so and would really like to optimize this phone as best I can. Not doing intensive stuff -- primarily email checking, google browser searches as far as the data side of things. Plenty of free memory as well.
Any advice greatly appreciated!
