Doesnt bother me at all. I carry a spare with me at all times. I am a heavy user and understand that battery life is what it is. Somedays are better than other but i usually cant get through a whole day with out charging at some point.

Mods should close this topic. Since the device isn't out yet and no one really knows what the battery life will be, all this thread will produce is a stream of insults and misinformation.

well i'm in canada, my GF got this phone from work last week on Rogers (GSM).

i can confirm that the battery life SUCKS.

with Wifi on, the phone doesn't even last 12 hours with zero talk time and very light email use.

when we go to bed at night the phone is flashing "low battery" and she charges it every night.

i turned wifi off for her a couple of days ago to see if that makes a difference, but i keep forgetting to look. but i shouldn't have to turn the Wifi off if i want the phone to last more than 1 day.

Has she upgraded the OS to the latest version? 4.6.0.155 now, iirc.

Is she running in 3G, 2G/3G or 2G? Apparently 2G/3G is the biggest battery drainer mode.

Any 3rd Party apps installed and left running, such as Google Maps?

OK, so here's my experience so far. I've owned the Blackberry Bold (unlocked Rogers version, using it in the US on AT&T) for almost 3 weeks now. Personally, I found the initial battery life was pretty bad - with moderate email, talking, surfing and playing music, the battery almost totally ran down every day. Taking the advice of other people on these forums, I did two things: 1) I switched off wi-fi as I usually always get a strong 3G signal and only switch it on if I'm somewhere where I can't get 3G) and 2) I upgraded the OS from 4.6.0.125 (Rogers pre-installed) to 4.6.0.147. And voila! battery life is MUCH improved, this last week I've only had to charge the device every 2-3 days. I understand that the new OS 4.6.0.162 has now been officially released which should further help the battery life.

I've never owned the iPhone so I can't compare the two. But in terms of comparison to earlier cell phones I've owned, I think that the battery life is now pretty decent for the Bold. And if you look around these forums, I think you'll see that a lot of us Bold owners feel the same way.

Question from a lurker. I have an 8820 which I really like. What are the benefits of upgrading to a Bold? I know it has the faster 3G network, but I gather it is better to stay off that network most of the time to avoid draining the battery.

First and foremost, processor, processor, processor. This is the biggest difference I have seen. Things run smoother, and the phones reaction (other than the browser loading) is typically immediate.

The 4.6 OS is stellar.

While some may not agree, the Bold is a darn good looking phone. With measurements on par with the 88xx series of devices, feels so much smaller, and less brick-ish.

[EDIT] : Welcome to the forums!

Wifi is the drainer, 3G is not as bad as some would suggest. Leaving the phone on 2G/3G hunt kills the battery with the switching. So no wifi when there is 3G, and never let the phone decide on 2G/3G and your fine.

Upgrade... Upgrade... Upgrade... as with all OS's, like windows where there seems to be endless patches to correct some bugs and inefficiencies here & there... :D

.162 is the latest and most stable right now... batt life improved significantly. All the best!

upgrade to .167

More stable, less memory leaks and improved battery life.

I'm not using my phone for data, should I leave my Bold on 2G to conserve battery life or just leave it at 2G/3G settings?
