my curve was even worse after putting 4.5 on. would barely make it past 7pm. im lucky to get 12hours

anyway. my bold was on 20% at 7:30 today. its still a new battery tho, hopefully its still got some room for improvement, its only sunday. we havent even gotten to a business day yet :(

i didnt expect great things out of the battery, but i find it amusing that its very similar to my 8820 with 4.5, but no where near my 8820 with 4.2

bare in mind that you might not know that you're using it extensively for the first few days. everytime i get a new electronic, the battery dies out quicker than i expected because i'm using it like crazy.

I don't understand why RIM (and Apple, for that matter) don't turn the 3G radio off (i.e., drop down to EDGE only) automatically when the screen backlight turns off. If nothing else, make this an option - it's already s/w selectable on both devices.

If you're responding to my post, that's not what I'm suggesting. I'm suggesting have the s/w automatically drop back to 2G when the backlight is off. Bump back up to 3G when the user turns on the display.

I've had my Bold on for 24hrs now, sent 6 emails, 10 SMS's, 3 MMS's, made a couple of calls, browsed the internet and watched a few video files and my battery is at 90% still.

I'm connected to 3G, and Wi-Fi is on.

I'm having the same issues... less than a day and even worse when it gets low of power, it turns the connectivity off so you can no longer get phone calls... nice touch.

That's like saying "when the battery runs out, the phone turns off". Err... yup!

For the record, upgrading to the latest OS (sticky at the top of this forum) has improved my battery life leaps and bounds.

I am wondering if some carriers took this phone before ALL of the bugs were worked out. From what I know about it the battery works just fine and can go several days on 3G/EDGE. The battery is without a doubt much longer lasting than the iPhone.

For those in the U.S. I don't know that I would be sweating the battery.

I'm going through the initial process of letting my battery die then charge to 100% the first few times to condition the battery. After 9 hours following a full charge and browsing the web and reading several emails, which I would consider my normal usage, I'm at 60%.

It seems a lot lower than my experience with my previous Curve but I also expected that from a 3G device and the ability to have a better web browsing experience.

Nevertheless, I've waited for a 3G blackberry for a long time and wouldn't change my decision to have the Bold.

EDIT: BTW, do I really need to condition the battery? When I bought the Bold, the salesperson suggested I condition it the first few times.

Because of the above post, I was very curious about "battery conditioning", so I looked it up, Frequently Asked Questions about NiMH Battery Chargers, AA and AAA, very interesting and somewhat educational, LOL.
Maybe it is good to condition the battery, who knows?

No, you really can't condition a LiIon battery.

That page is a FAQ for NiMH and NiCD, of which the Bold's battery is not. Look instead at Battery Use Tips for your Maximum Battery Life | BlackBerryNews.com

my experience with LiIon batteries is that letting it die will actually harm the battery over time. Atleast with Notebook batteries I find that is the case, when it run out it can actually lose capacity little by little.

It seems like I've been wasting my time conditioning the battery.

I appreciate the link and am reading and absorbing it now.

Is there anything that you can't find on this forum? (rhetorical)

haha, yes. I can't find intelligent life in the Off-Topic section of this forum.

That linked article above, I wrote, so I knew where to find it.

On the battery issues, I stand on the ground that you can't condition a Li-Ion battery, however you can condition the "meter" which gauges the charge percentage and is displayed on your BlackBerry.

For more than you want to read, check the battery university link at the bottom of the news article.

first 2 business days. havent been too bad on my battery.
the first saw about 60emails and some out of office browsing, and a couple of quick calls and i was at 20% at 9pm.

today. much of the same deal. spoke for about 1.5hours. and i was on the blink for the drive home.

so overall. i'll probably have to manage the bold a little differently to previous devices, but i think its not a terrible situation.
