Hi all,
Thanks for trying Live Search

You're right Canada is not officially supported.
However there is a workaround to be able to search for businesses in Canada: change your device language to "English (United Kingdom)" or any language different from "English (United States)" and "English".
You can change the language in Options > Languages.

Yes Microsoft acquired Tellme in 2007

You can save the results of a business search to your address book.
You can also select a location from an address found in your address book.
And you can map a contact address from your address book, using the "Map in Live Search" menu item.

There is no automatic update of the GPS status message.
You can try to refresh the message with the "Update Status" menu option. But you don't have to wait in the "Configure GPS" screen. For example you can display a map and start a "GPS Tracking": your position will be displayed as soon as you get a GPS fix.

On some devices (including AT&T devices), the internal GPS is not accessible by independent third party applications but in this case you should have got an GPS initialization error.

Disclaimer: I have not dl'd LS yet, but I do have the new version of TellMe.
From reading the feature list, the two seem to be very similar. Could someone flesh out the differences in the two products (maybe include beyond411 as well)?
Since Microsoft acquired TellMe, then why put out 2 seperate products that seemingly do the same thing? Why not integrate the 2 into 1? Seems like you're competing against yourself here (Coke suing CokeZero comes to mind)
Or am I off base and missing something that really sets these apps apart from one another?

The provided feature set is similar. But the supported devices are not exactly the same. Live Search for BlackBerry supports BlackBerryOS 4.1 (without voice) and Tellme allows voice search on CDMA devices and Live Search doesn't.
Also the Tellme interface is voice-centric when voice is an optional feature in Live Search.

This works very nicely with the GPS option. I have a 8120 with a bluetooth puck. Very sweet.

Can't seem to figure that out.

thanks for the reply - however with looking up contacts, my 8300 freezes up requiring battery pull. I have over 1400 contacts. Thanks

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

Nice product. I like it better than the Bogles Product which is also very good.

Just DL'd it. Looks pretty similiar to the last version I had a few months ago. Hopefully all the new features work pretty good and make it worth keeping this time. There are so many of these type apps being made now that its mainly just a choice of what interface you want to use. Yahoo go, infospace, windows live serch, beyond 411, a lot to choose from now. Also hopefully this means microsoft and Rim are even closer to releasing windows live access.

For this app to shine above all others, here's what I suggest you folks do:

1. Add residential lookup!
2. Improve "add to contacts" speed - takes over 15 secs!
3. Improve "insert from contacts" - takes forever/never!
4. Make GPS more consistent - sometimes it works / sometimes no

Thanks.

Hi All,

I downloaded this to my new pearl 8110. It's working perfect. I like it much over google maps as it has below advantages.
1) Voice search is available
2) Search is based on GPS location
3) While using GPS in map directions, the back light stays.
4) While using GPS in map directions, the map is moving automatically as we travel.
5) Category search is available

Overall, I like the Live application.

Does this work on the 8100? I downloaded it and tried to run it, but it just says "testing connection ..." forever. It gets up to 3/4, then the green bar stops moving.

Testing on my Blackberry 8800.

Cool program. A couple of suggestions offtop:
-I think that the default way to sort songs should be by filename. I have albums on my memory card in folders, in which the tracks are named by track numbers first. It might just be me, but I think that most people have things set up that way. It's cool that it's an option I can change, but having filename as default makes more sense to me.
-I wish there could be some sort of viewpoint where you could see the album cover and album name, but I'm anal about my music like that. Plus, for whatever reason, I know that the Blackberry hardware has trouble detecting all album titles, so I understand why it's not there.
-With the Add Files/Folders option, the "Explore" option to look into all the folders should be available. Or, just the option to simply rename/delete folders or files if you want to.This would make it a complete substitution for the media icon.

-I *do* like the way that it lets you choose folders and eliminate the process of picking "video/music/ringtones" etc. Also, saving playlists is efficient as well.

All in all, this seems like a pretty capable substitute for the media player that comes in the blackberry.
