Well, as a Bell customer I did not have MMS option available when sending messages. However, after this update I can MMS

That's a big feature add-on in my eyes, hehe.

I was told by a VZW rep that RevA capability was a software update away (not sure whether to believe it). Anyway, I have also seen an Alltel add that indicates that their 8130 IS RevA capable in tethered mode. Is it possible that this update addresses that at all? Do any Alltel customers tether their 8130 AND live in a RevA area? Would be interested in knowing their speeds, especially after this upgrade.

the 8130 is listed as Rev 0 from RIM. Carriers mistate things all the time. Search the forums for the 8310 and 3g email you get when you buy it from ATT

I talked to ten different reps (ranging from sales reps to technical consultants, to network managers). Nobody had a solid answer. Two agreed that a software update would make the 8130 RevA capable. Really wish these companies would be more informed as to the truth... very frustrating.

good point Sith... my own investigations would lead me to believe that my 8130 is not RevA by the numbers that I am getting. BUT, a VZW rep on this forum is reporting consistent download speeds of 1.5Mbps and upload speeds of 500 Mbps. I think that is high for Rev0. Guess I'll look at RIM's release info and see if I can glean anything from that. But one thing for sure... my 8130 gets download speeds of about 1Mbps and upload speeds of 120Mbps. And I KNOW that I am in a RevA geographical area.

I apologize for seemingly hijcaking this thread... had no intention of doing so... just thought there might have been a tie between the Alltel update and the Alltel ad that I saw...

You mean xml file? If you leave it, nothing will happen - the upgrade won't occur.

The vendor.xml file only tells desktop manager not to load the OS on a phone that's from another carrier. That's all it does. It has no other purpose.

Yes - update. Removes need to confirm standby mode when you press teh Mute button, fixes Bluetooth voice dialing when in standby/holster, better memory management, other unknown misc. fixes.

It is recommended by dentists for their patients who use Blackberries...

You can load this on ANY 8130 regardless of the carrier/brand. However, this isn't the newest anymore. See my link 2 posts above for the latest OS for the 8130.

I tried to update my phone last night, which wa taking a rather long time.
When it got to the initializing part, it took an exceptionally long time (around 2-3 hours), error'd out at the end.

Now my phone is looping at the white/hourglass screen.

Is it dead?!

Thanks

No. Just start the install over again.
