Default DM 6, OS 6 and BES Activation

Please Login to Remove!

Found this statement in the other forum and wanted to know if anybody can confirm or deny...

"BES worked seamless for me. I usually have to be connected to my work intranet to activate automatically. With DM 6 and OS 6 you can automatically connect. One thing to remember is to upgrade through DM without wiping if you are out of the office."

I have always done upgrades from my work PC using DM. When the process is complete, I am reactivated on the BES with no need to contact the BES admin and he is fine with this scenario. I always thought this was because DM "saw" the BES server on the network.

This statement would lead me to believe that if you are running DM 6 and loading OS 6, it can be done from any pc.

Anybody know if this correct??

Thanks

Pretty much, yes.

I've done a few upgrades on my BES activated 9800 and the Enterprise Activation kicks off on its own after the upgrade is done. I believe this feature is new and actually was available on some later versions of OS 5 as well.

I didn't even use DM to do the upgrade. This was done straight through the application loader (loader.exe) on a PC that wasn't even connected to the network.

Thanks for your response. Sound like it could be a BES Admin nightmare.

I might be missing what you are asking... but basically if you are wired and can access the Blackberry Router via port 4101 then you will activate. If the activation starts wired but is interrupted, it will continue wireless.

The loss of least cost routing and wired activations is what prompts some folks that put the router in the DMZ to do router chaining, or open port 4101 on the internal-facing FW.
